Rewatching clips from yesterday’s Cohen spectacle. With a few exceptions (Jordan obviously) the Republicans stumbled and bumbled their way through questioning. This charade will continue and the GOP would be well-advised to prepare and execute much better than they did yesterday.
Rep. Hice exposed Cohen’s fluffers but did it so clumsily that the message was lost. Get your shit together, people, this ain’t beanbag.
This is why Dems smell blood. GOP leadership and lawmakers are mostly flat footed here and have little clue how to effectively expose these hucksters.

He very likely has leaked nonpublic info to the press, and now this week, tampered with a witness. The GOP signed off on a bogus ethic probe into Nunes in 2017 for nothing - where is House Ethics inquiry on Schiff for his misconduct or @CongressEthics ?

So I’ll pass on the phony outrage at @RepMattGaetz tweet about Cohen while Congressional Democrats have made hundreds of threats against Trump, his family, his advisors and basically every cabinet official for the past 2 years. Like, seriously, eff off.
Matt Gaetz as a mobster while Schiff literally threatens to take down Don Jr on a daily basis.

The envy that clueless NeverTrumpers have for Michael Anton is stunning. While these hacks were supporting Clinton or McMullin in 2016, Anton wrote, “A Hillary presidency will be petal-to-the-metal on the entire progressive Left agenda, plus items few of us yet imagined...”

Anton and small handful of others recognized the threat the Left posed in 2016. @MJGerson didn’t and still doesn’t. He thinks FISAgate is a Fox News conspiracy...if Gerson had his way, the Left would control everything.

Few people, journalists included, have any idea of the scale of fundamentalist philanthropy that funds the culture wars. But in 2016 the National Christian Foundation gave out just under $1.4 billion in grants. NCF supports creationism & the claim that the Bible is infallible.
NCF is the biggest philanthropy of The Gathering, a yearly confab of neo-fundamentalist multi-millionaires & billionaires conceived of at a 1985 meeting of "friends" at "The Cedars", the Alexandria, VA mansion retreat of The Fellowship which hosts the National Prayer Breakfast.
The Gathering has long kept a very low public profile. I discovered it in 2011 and promptly downloaded its audio archive of talks given at the event that went back to 1996. A couple of years later that archive was wiped from the official website of The Gathering. Too late!

The #Republican share of votes cast so far is +0.96% vs 2016. In contrast, the #Democrat share is -0.05%. In total, the Rep-Dem margin vs 2016 is R+1.01%. So the GOP is ~170k early votes better in these 13 states than they did in 2016.

#Republicans have lifted their share of the vote from 2016 in 9 of the 13 states. #Democrats have done so in just 7 of the 13. Net, the distribution of votes have moved in the #GOP’s favor in 8 states; to the #Dems in 5.

The final large batch of votes came in from Florida (a few more will trickle in today & tomorrow) and again favored the Democrats, as expected. As a result, the GOP-Dem margin decreased 0.09% since yesterday and 0.29% over the last 24 hours.

The hearing is now officially starting, with opening remarks from the ranking members of both committees (Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee).
In her opening remarks, Sen. Feinstein mentions last night's news that Cambridge Analytica had access to Facebook users' private direct messages.
I hope someone asks Zuckerberg how Facebook can claim they didn't know Cambridge Analytica was still using data they harvested, given that FB sent employees to "embed" w/ the Trump campaign's digital team — so FB employees were working in the same office as Cambridge Analytica.
