The George Pell police interview
The best political outcome for the establishment, including the Vatican, is if Pell is found guilty on appeal. Then he goes away. The worst thing that could happen politically is if he is found not guilty on appeal.
Then he becomes a martyr and the search for conspirators will begin. Even now it is starting to become less about the actual guilt or innocence of an individual and all about sending a message. But what message?
The old tribal hatreds have not been extinguished by modern politics. They've just been re-arranged. The 'best case' scenario is that Pell serves out his term in media obscurity. The 'worst case' scenario is Dreyfus.
