.@uklabour There was a petition to lift the suspension of Labour councillor David Watson who posted antisemitic material. A few hundred signatories went as far as commenting. Out of those, we spotted a number of JVL members. Here’s what they had to say...

David Watson has a history of antisemitism. Most of these JVL members supporting him also signed the recent @guardian letter supporting @jeremycorbyn. JVL exist to whitewash Labour antisemitism, which is why Jeremy Corbyn calls them ‘good people’.
And of course, how could we leave off Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, who was personally thanked by David Watson for her support

.@uklabour (thread). Despite Jewish support for Jeremy Corbyn being at an all-time low, a loyal few wrote a letter of support to give the opposite impression. @jeremycorbyn used them to insist he has Jewish support.

2/12 Samuel tweeted about “Rothschild’s doing #usury” despite the Rothschild in question being a social scientist. Samuel attached the word "usury" to a prominent Jew who wrote a report he didn't like
3/12 “The Rothschilds” have been used in antisemitic conspiracy theories for hundreds of years. The Nazis made a propaganda film called “Rothschild.” And usury is a sin stereotypically associated with Jews since medieval times.

A thread about a @UKLabour member who is also a trade union official.

Sam Vickers @sambfawu is a member of Barnsley East CLP. He was suspended in 2016 but readmitted.

He is Yorkshire Regional Organiser of the Bakers, Food & Allied Workers Union (BAFWU)
Sam came to my attention because i noticed that he had just been trolling Luciana @lucianaberger after she called attention to the case of Prof David Miller.

Sam demanded that Luciana prove evidence of antisemitism in Labour & appeared to defend Prof Millar.
Sam Vickers then made an allegation that @lucianaberger was drawing attention to antisemitism as part of an organised campaign to undermine Labour.

This is very likely antisemitic as it makes mendacious claims about Jews as a collective.

Labour Against the Witchhunt wouldn't even report a Nazi.

LAW have welcomed former MP Jim Sheridan's reinstatement by the party. He was suspended last summer over an #antisemitic statement he posted on Facebook. But LAW don't accept he did anything wrong in the first place. /1
When Labour members err, there ought to be opportunity for them to learn from the experience and make amends. But comrade Sheridan's statement after his suspension was lifted suggested his only regret was getting caught and he appeared to blame those who complained about him. /2
Let's recall what got him into trouble: Sheridan declared he had lost respect and empathy for an entire ethnic group - "the Jewish community" - due to events in @UKLabour. The #Holocaust, pogroms and persecution no longer moved him because of "their Blairite plotters". /3

In August 2018 Jim Sheridan a Labour Councillor was reported to the Labour Party for #Antisemitic comments. Sheridan stated that he had lost respect and empathy for the Jewish community.
I am not going to defend his statement. It appears to have been used in frustration at what he perceived to be unwarranted levels of #Antisemitic allegations against the #LabourParty Jim Sheridan has since apologised and been reinstated with a warning.
But what was behind his frustration? Why would someone who stated he had supported the Jewish Community all his adult life, suddenly say he had lost empathy for them? Perhaps we should look at the broader picture?

Holocaust denial in the Labour Party? John Pocock, who says he's a @UKLabour member in Rossendale & Darwen, reckons that the only #antisemitism in the party comes from its Jewish members. /1
He wrote that in response to one of those 'show me the evidence' posts, so popular last summer, where Labour members express their puzzlement or cynicism about the motives of those raising concerns about antisemitism in the party. /2
Most comments followed the usual pattern of bewilderment, denialism and conspiracy theories - orchestrated claptrap, criticising Israel isn't antisemitic, etc. John Pocock's contribution seemed to go further but still earned seven 'likes', including from the original poster. /3

Asa Winstanley's piece about "fake Labour accounts" that push #antisemitism to discredit the party has been widely shared. I don't doubt that goes on and state actors are most likely involved, but Asa's article seems to be a big hit with people who actually do hold a/s views. /1
These people, many Labour members, seem oblivious to the irony of blaming anonymous trolls, presumably acting on behalf of Israel or the Tories, for spreading antisemitic poison that they themselves regularly promote. One such character is Charles Chiverton of Mansfield CLP. /2
Like his fellow Mansfield CLP comrades Jeff Bowler and Roland Laycock, whose antisemitism I highlighted yesterday, Charles Chiverton believes the concerns about antisemitism in the Labour Party are largely a smear campaign to undermine pro-Corbyn and pro-Palestinian activists. /3
