Blue Cross of Michigan is a “nonprofit.”
This is one reason why there is a LOT of lobbying power against having a public option compete against private insurers for ACA customers. The head of CMS makes about $200K/year.
So, Blue Cross of Michigan actually has an explainer on the virtues of its nonprofit status. Sample quote: "This approach puts people before profits."
The CEO of this nonprofit makes *$19 million* a year.
Not surprisingly, they don't mention that.
