House Democrats are patting themselves on the back Friday morning for passing a sweeping government reform package, known as H.R. 1, that they knew would never see a vote in the Senate.
The bill, a 500-page behemoth containing “dozens of provisions favored by liberal advocacy groups, labor unions and other Democratic allies,” passed on a strictly party-line vote, 234-193.
But Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) moved the legislation forward without any effort to coordinate with Senate Republicans, who control the upper chamber of Congress. As a result, Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 🐢declared on Wednesday that H.R. 1 would not receive a Senate floor vote.
When a reporter asked McConnell why, he said, “Because I get to decide what we vote on.” 😄
