Morrison’s idiotic statement about gender equity - that women shouldn’t succeed at the expense of men - matches his previous comments about wealth inequality. This is his ideology - we shouldn’t help the vulnerable if it hurts those better off. A thread👇🏻
In fact these statements tell you all you need to know about Morrison’s political priorities. In a nutshell, he sees progressive policies as a threat to the entitlement of the already well-off. He sees progress as a bad thing as he wants to maintain the status quo.
This ideology impacts every single policy area. He wants the unemployed punished and the NewStart allowance hard to get because he sees welfare as a burden on richer tax payers. He doesn’t want the vulnerable ‘hurting’ the well off.
Morrison wants rich corporations to pay less tax, and doesn’t want to spend tax payer revenue on services that go to the vulnerable. Example is his government’s increase in school funding for Catholic schools but not for poorer public schools.
Dividend imputation is another one. He doesn’t want to end the rort for the rich because things are very cosy as they are now, thank you very much. The rich should remain rich at the expense of poorer tax payers.
Of course this ideology is also at the centre of Liberals’ failure to take action on climate change. Morrison wants to keep the coal barons rich and sees anything that threatens this immense wealth as a problem. He wants the planet to fry rather than to ‘take from coal miners’.
Morrison is owned by the most entitled sections of the community. Whenever he hears someone say ‘we have a problem we need to fix’, his immediate concern is ‘this will upset the status quo’.
So when it came to his comments about women on #IWD2019, he doesn’t understand the concept of enabling success for women without also believing men will be worse off.
Of course in reality, it’s obvious that one person’s success does not take away from someone else’s. A great example is gender equity. If I receive wage parity with a male colleague, my household is better off (inc. husband) and the whole economy prospers.
When a poor person is given an opportunity to succeed, such as a good education, they contribute to the community, they contribute to the economy, they make everyone better off. They are not successful at the ‘expense of someone else’.
Morrison’s ideology is just a badly articulated version of all right wing ideology. They want to maintain the status quo - the dominance of the patriarchy, the growing wealth divide, the entitlement of inter generational inheritance. This is not a new thing.
The entire foundation of right wing values is premised on the immature concept that success is a pie and if one person has a piece, another person misses out.
Since Liberals literally really believe success only happens at the expense of someone else, they should never be put in charge of a government responsible for enabling ‘success’ for the entire country. They don’t get it. So don’t put them in charge. End.
Sorry, not end. One more example of this immature reasoning from Libs. When a sick refugee is treated in hospital, an Australian citizen misses out on medical care. Now you see it, the attitude is EVERYWHERE. End.
