@DavidAFrench has your thinking on these issues (the eager hunt for damning quotes, the uncharitable interpretation of a person’s life, tearing someone down for the words of their spouse or associates) changed at all since the days of Imam Rauf and the GZ Mosque?
You opposed the mosque quite vocally, as I recall. You insisted that while Imam Rauf might indeed be a man of peace, he and his associates had said enough damning quotes over the decades that their campaign was unredeemable.

As for NRO, its editors urged a consumer boycott.
So I am curious, @DavidAFrench, whether your thinking on these matters has changed. And if not, what differentiates the two general approaches toward understanding a person’s past, besides the fact that Carlson and Shapiro happen to reside in your ideological camp?
I hope you don’t find this unfair or a case of vulgar whataboutism. Really what I’m trying to understand is whether or not your stance is simply motivated by the fact that you, at this particular moment and in this particular case, are not on the winning side of the culture war.
