The Left has done all it can to rehabilitate the name of socialism - a difficult endeavor given the constant stream of horror stories from actual socialist countries - so it will now turn its full attention to making "capitalism" a dirty word before the 2020 election.
It is no coincidence that every form of authoritarian collectivism builds political capital by savaging capitalism. Capitalism is the true antithesis of authoritarianism. It is the ONLY force that holds authoritarianism at bay.
This is also one of the reasons left-wing ideologies love to attack "materialism" and "consumerism." They invest a great deal of effort in denigrating material concerns and portraying money as inherently evil. Idle dreamers are presented as the most elevated state of being.
In truth, socialists are the greediest people on Earth, with a boundless appetite for money they SEIZE rather than earning. They want YOU to turn your back on property so they can more easily take it. That includes valuable capital such as your own labor.
The Left has always understood that seizing money, property, and capital gives them the ultimate power. Any "rights" they generously grant citizens along the way can easily be taken back once capitalism is defeated and the people no longer own enough capital to resist the State.
Everything else the Left tells you about "freedom" and your "right" to demand goods and services from other people is just a trick to make you let go of free-market capitalism, the only true guarantor of freedom. The less you own, the closer to serfdom and slavery you get.
Capitalism is ultimately the right to say "no," the right to refuse the demands of others, whether those demands are issued by mobs or laundered through government officials to disguise them as moral imperatives. You must be PERSUADED to part with what you own, not commanded.
That most definitely includes your labor, the capital each and every one of us owns. Under capitalism, you sell it by choice to employers who choose to buy it. The big lie of Marxism is portraying this as a form of slavery, when in fact it is the ONLY true antidote to slavery.
Once capitalism is gone, some can indulge in idleness while others are forced to work to support them. That always turns into a nightmare as the amount of force necessary to compel working citizens to provide the benefits demanded increases relentlessly.
Notice, by the way, the current fad among lefties to denigrate work and impugn the notion that it brings dignity to the worker. This is why they're peddling that rancid garbage. They need to trick you into forgetting that your labor is YOUR property and it's incredibly valuable.
Who tells you your labor is valuable? The true advocates of liberty: the people who want to buy it.

Who tells you your labor is worthless, employers are exploiters, and you need the State to take care of you? The enemies of liberty: the people who would enslave you.
Who encourages you to rise higher in life, work harder, improve your skills, and pursue opportunities? The capitalist who pays for your labor and wants his investment to flourish.

Who peddles despair and futility? The socialist who wants you to stay down so he can control you.
Turning your back on capitalism means turning away from individual dignity and competitiveness. You lose your individual power to say "no," to refuse demands, to seek a better deal and reach higher. And once you can't say "no" any more, you WILL be given orders. /end
