Government motion free vote - but only for the main motion, hearing Govt will whip against the Spelman-Dromey clarifying amendment a (backed by Cooper-Boles-Letwin) that basically rules out No Deal entirely and without reservation, a version of which has already passed
Interesting decision on Malthousers amendment too for Government (but no actual Malthouse!) - but look the ERG & DUP Dep leader now proposing an extension of Article 50 until 2259 on 22 May... and then a form of No Deal/WTO.
In theory ministers allowed to vote FOR No Deal by voting against the motion laid by PM under a free vote, but if our whipping info is correct, will be fired for voting that No Deal should be ruled out indefinitely by voting for the Dromey-Spelman amendment (no free vote)
Free vote now for Malthouse amendment too after threatened ministerial rebellion... but not (yet) Spelman-Dromey

Here is the message Kawczynski sent - quite the journey from last month suggesting going to Warsaw to get the Polish to veto any extension “if we continue to push we may lose Brexit

Well - @nickboles quits his local Conservatives after deselection threats over his efforts to prevent No Deal - says he will continue as MP and take Tory whip if “offered on acceptable terms”... but stand down at the end of his mandate...
Chief Whip tweets to say he stays a Tory MP - I think. Which means he would have to rejoin a different local Conservative association that doesn’t mind his role in stopping no deal...
Another cchq source confirms he remains a Tory MP and that the net effect of this is he has just preannounced he is not going to stand in next election...

But that also means that local associations have no leverage over MPs planning to stand down...

We're going to hear lots about MPs 'ruling out No Deal' or 'taking No Deal off the table' today.

We'll also hear 'No Deal is the legal default' in response.

Truth lies in between. MPs can't 'rule out' No Deal *today*. But they can make it less likely. Here's why (thread): 👇
1. First, let's take a look at the Government's main motion (which will be a free vote for Tory MPs). 👇

This "declines to approve" leaving with No Deal *on the 29th March*, but notes that No Deal remains the legal default unless and until the Commons passes a deal.
2. The wording of the motion reflects political considerations. May - and many other ministers and MPs - do not want to leave with No Deal, and certainly not at end of March. But they want to keep a *post-extension* No Deal in play for negotiating reasons (re: both EU and MPs)
