The debate - if you can even call it that - cannot go on like this in 🇬🇧. These endless debates in the Commons, without serious conclusions.

May oscillating between trying to intimidate MPs and running off to meet 🇪🇺 negotiators.

The only sensible way forward from here would be to seek a *long* pause. For 🇬🇧 to take a deep breath, securely away from the cliff edge.

I'd advocate a 21 month extension with the UK staying in the EU. Same as the foreseen transition period.

While I ultimately cannot see a way out of this conundrum without a #PeoplesVote, doing one soon, hastily, and in the current febrile atmosphere would be awful for all concerned.

So - either by asking 🇪🇺 for a long delay, OR by rescinding #Article50 - 🇬🇧 needs a pause for breath.

During that period a participative, transparent, and honest conversation about #Brexit - something that has not happened until now - needs to happen.

There needs to be an effort to see if there is genuine broad support for #Brexit. That Westminster politicians show some humility, show some effort to reach out beyond the 52%. To go out and listen to all sorts of groups. Genuinely.

There is understandable anger in the UK population about what has happened - on both sides! There needs to be a genuine effort to heal that. And an honest acknowledgement from politicians who have backed Brexit that their strategy has not worked.

So my ideal outcome:
- extend UK membership of EU by 21 months
- spend 12 months consulting the population in a genuinely consultative manner
- calm down the emotions
- hold a #PeoplesVote in 2020 on the result
