The #HuntsPointBronx industrial waterfront hosts NYC's Food Supply, a low-income POC community and a high volume of toxic substances. If an extreme weather event compromised the waterfront, the results would be catastrophic.
Despite the existence of a comprehensive community resiliency plan for Hunts Point, NYC allocated $45m to an energy pilot project for the neighborhood with no roadmap or fundraising commitment for coastal protection. The neighborhood is still vulnerable.
Please stop framing every climate resiliency effort as the #GreenNewDeal, and take notes from @CJAOurPower who underscore the importance of rooting the green new deal in communities most impacted by climate. climatejusticealliance.org/green-new-deal…

I've done several stories this year about the lack of access to drinking water in California. More than 300 community water systems in the state do not meet safety requirements. An estimated one million Californians are exposed to unsafe water each year. (You read that right.)
Those are shocking numbers. And research shows that low income communities of color are disproportionately affected. And this extends far beyond California; it's a problem nationally, where more than two million do not have access to potable water.

A 27 year old doctoral candidate from Northwestern University - scientists at Exxon knew 40 years ago fossil fuels would destabilize the planet. Their trade/industry orgs have waged a decades long campaign of lying to public about the science and now it threatens the human race.
Biden signed no fossil fuel money pledge,but "how can Biden be trusted to hold them accountable for crimes against humanity when tomorrow you are holding a high dollar fundraiser hosted by Andrew Goldman a fossil fuel executive"
Biden immediately says he is not. Andrew Goldman provides Canadian gas to parts of Asia as head of Western LNG.
Incidentally, the Intercept reported on this earlier today.

REPORT: Massachusetts residents who switched to so-called “competitive” electric suppliers continue to lose millions of dollars each year.

We must put an end to these deceptive sales practices in our neighborhoods. mass.gov/files/document…
Our concern remains that too many customers are being falsely promised big savings on their electricity bills and then overcharged month after month.

This report highlights the need for legislation to stop these predatory companies from scamming residents.
Here’s what we know:

✅ 500,000 MA residents receive electricity directly from a competitive supplier.

✅ More than 1,000 complaints have been filed about aggressive door-to-door sales tactics.

✅ Low-income residents and communities of color are disproportionately impacted.
