Her name is Thimmakka. (Akka means elder sister). Called Salu Marada Thimmakka. (Saalu = In a line, Mara = Tree).

She & her late husband planted banyan trees for an entire four kilometre stretch in Karnataka, and took care of them like children in a relatively dry area.

Now, Thimmakka, who dedicated her life for environment, got a Padma Shri.

When was the last time you saw a Padma award received in barefoot? That shows how Modi dignified these awards by giving to the most deserving Indians instead of dynasty brokers in Lutyens Dilli.
Imagine trees as wide as these for four km on either side of a road!
Imagine watering them and protecting them from animals during early years.

India should be ever grateful for such a noble soul as #SalumaradaTimmakka
