Esther McVey has said she now plans to vote for Theresa May's deal. In totally unrelated news, a village in her constituency has just received £21.7 million in funding from the Chancellor.

"You just said that Theresa May's deal is a bad deal. You literally resigned from Cabinet so that you could vote against it. And now you're going to change your mind?"
Word salad answer could feed a dozen vegans. Paraphrased: "yes-and- I'm-no-hypocrite".
But we should remember that there are only 365 days in the year, so it's plausibly within the realm of chance that the two announcements came so close together. Benefit of the doubt, etc.
While we're on the topic of Esther McVey, here's a thread which talks about her recent attempt to spread discredited lies about the Lisbon Treaty (she waited until the tweet gained traction then quietly deleting it without admitting anything had happened).
Oh, and she's planning to be Tory leader. I think you're all caught up now.

Today is the first day that I see no Brexit hope at all. By declining to ask for a long A50 extension, Theresa May has shown that she couldn't care less what Parliament or the country think, she's just an ERG puppet. All bets are now off, folks!
EU are unlikely to save us: they are fed up to their back teeth from being blamed for a Brexit that was not their doing, so they're hardly going to want to step into a "bully" role at this late juncture by throwing their weight around. They'll let us shoot ourselves in the head.
Parliament is also unlikely to be able to play the role of saviour. Getting a legally binding vote through the HOC and through the whole legislative process is a very high hurdle, especially if the Government and other factions actively sabotage and frustrate the process.

Question on the lips of Brexit-watchers everywhere this morning: has Theresa May's letter to the EU about an Article 50 extension requested a short extension, a long extension, both, or has she avoided specifying the details and just talked about it conceptually in vague terms?
If she's only requesting a short extension, that shuts the door on any sensible softer Brexit, on a general election, or on a second referendum. Only possible choices would be her deal again, no-deal crash out, or no Brexit.
If she only asked for a long extension, anything is possible when it comes to the outcome of Brexit itself, but it would be declaring her deal dead-dead (which it jolly well should be by now anyway). Oh, and the headbanger Brexiters will burst a blood vessel.

Just got my 2019/2020 council tax bill, and the line item for "Police" is increasing over 12%!

How is that possible. Thanks to a really, really dirty Tory Party trick. They greatly raised the cap on the amount local councils are allowed to spend on policing.
This allows the Government to claim that more money is going into the police (because local councils are spending more) while spreading all the responsibility and blame onto them.

Why is any of this necessary? Because central police funding has been cut and cut and cut.
It's like your boss saying "Sure, you can have a pay rise. No, *I'm* not going to pay you more. In fact I might cut your salary again. But I'll let you jack the price we charge customers up, and keep some of the difference."

On 24 January 2017 David Davis said: "We have come up... the idea of a comprehensive free trade agreement and a comprehensive customs union that will deliver the exact same benefits as we have."
Yesterday Theresa May said: "Our access to each others markets will be less than it is now." So the assurance given by David Davis will be breached.
On 26 June last year, @Keir_Starmer promised, in absolutely unequivocal terms, that Labour would hold David Davis to his promise. So Labour *must* - there is no logical alternative - vote against the Government's deal.
