Today is day three of Brexit votes this week and here’s what’s going to happen:
- First, MPs are voting on four amendments
- Then they’ll vote on the main motion put down by the government to delay Brexit

Here’s what the four amendments are:
- To have a second referendum
- To vote if parliament will take control of Brexit from the government
- To vote to delay Brexit and debate alternatives
- To vote whether to prevent a third vote on Theresa May’s deal

The first of the amendments has already been voted on, with parliament rejecting a second Brexit referendum by 85 to 334 votes.

The second amendment, which would have allowed parliament to take control of Brexit, was also just rejected by MPs — this time by a narrow margin of 312 to 314 votes.

The third amendment, which would have sought a delay on Brexit and more time to discuss further alternatives, has just been rejected by 302 to 318.

The fourth amendment, which would have prevented a third vote on Theresa May’s deal, has been taken off the table at the last minute. MPs are now voting on whether to delay Brexit.

Breaking News: The UK parliament just voted to delay Brexit, which was set for March 29.

The extension could go to the end of June, if Theresa May can pass her deal with the EU next week, or for a much longer period if it fails again. ft.com/content/5605c7…

While we've all been distracted by the big #Brexit votes in the Commons - some really interesting happenings in the Lords on the Trade Bill 1/
Last week, peers amended it to to say parliament (*both Houses*) must approve a negotiating mandate & approve a final trade deal before ratification

Also requires approval of mandate/deal by a designated select committees & consultation with the devolved administrations 2/
There have also been amdts which try and address the UK's negotiating objectives with the EU (e.g. customs union, Northern Ireland border, mobility framework), but I'll leave my excellent colleague @awstojanovic to explain what those mean... 3/

We all know there's uncertainty over how MPs will vote on #Brexit this week. Thought it might be handy just to flag why there's also uncertainty over exactly what & when they're voting on (nerdy procedure thread....) 1/
First, a reminder of the position in law: unless something happens in the A50 process (that is, Withdrawal Agreement [WA] is ratified or A50 period is extended), the UK by law leaves the EU on 29/3 without a Withdrawal Agreement in force. 2/
For WA to be ratified, by UK law HoC must approve it (& Political Declaration) in a motion moved by a minister under section 13 of EU (Withdrawal) Act (the #meaningfulvote due Tues 12/3); UK Parliament must also pass Withdrawal Agreement Bill (not yet introduced to Parl); ... 3/

1/ % of May’s deal passing are rising. DUP/Eurosceptics sounding more conciliatory; big mood change yesterday. But still v long way to go. ERG suspect May will hide behind Commons on A50 extension. Peace moves could be overtaken by events (backbench amendments)
2/ EU’s concern with Brexit is growing; no longer simple occupation of TF50, WPA50, COREPER and Sherpas; many more voices now involved as clock runs down to no-deal. But #Brexit still not biggest concern for EU—yet. So what is?

First Airbus, now BMW warn of factory closures if xBrexit takes UK out of the Customs Union and Single Market on which their supply chains depend...I wonder who Greg Hands and Philip Hammond have lined up next :)

The heat is clearly on ahead of the Chequers #Brexit meeting. /1
At this point, the roles are reversed from the Brexit campaign. Then the it's just 'project fear' narrative won the day.

Now, as Brexit approaches, the Brexiteers need to get beyond 'project fantasy' to sell a clean-break Brexit in face of real-world CEO warnings. /2
If BMW and Airbus are 'off' in the event of a clean-break #Brexit that brings the 'what then?' question into rather sharper focus.

And even if there was a case to be made (arguable) the Brexiteers are still making it based on hypotheticals...which is hard. /3

"#Brexit and EU agencies", our extensive look into third country relationships of the 36 EU agencies and how the UK might fit in.

Albeit largely technical, agencies will have huge implications on Brexit.

Five points stand out in particular:
First, Agencies matter. Like the customs union, they are a technical aspect of the EU, that works and was thus hardly discussed in the UK before #Brexit.
But they are important for single market, but also justice and home affairs.

UK gov thus has already asked to continue participation in selected agencies, in particular in sectors important to the UK economy, like aviation, chemicals or pharma.
