Question period stats with Ryan Meili asking something from a member of the public asking about Weyburn council decision and what’s being done. Min. Merriman says council is meeting today at 3. Next meeting is next Monday. #skpoli
Meili now asking if premier will declare Jan. 29 a day against hate and intolerance as was asked for by Muslim leaders who were in Sask. last week. Premier Moe says no place for Islamophobia, racism or hate of any kind. Says govt. has Jan. 29 day under consideration.
Moe says speaking out against hate and racism should happen every day. Meili asks why premier said he was not concerned with cabinet ministers attended yellow vest rallies where anti immigration and Muslim sentiments have been shared.
Moe says Meili shouldn’t politicize a tragedy. Moe says government record stands for itself citing number of international immigrants. Meili says yellow vest movement “has attracted many people with extreme views”. Says premier also has attended.
The sombre tone has now turned a bit angry on government side. Speaker asks Meili to keep questions within “administration of government”. My question is what cabinet ministers do in their roles within the admin. of govt?
Eyre now goes into Meili’s arrest as a protester. Meili says he stands up for his conviction and says govt members not being proud of their convictions. Speaker shuts him down. Meili seems to say how is that fair not sure if he used an expletive or not. #skpoli
Meili again asks if premier will distance his govt. from yellow vest. Eyre up now again. Speaker says things got “too personal”. And that was about as intense as things can get in here. #skpoli
NDP MLA Chartier asks about family who lost loved one in s long term care in Rosetown. Min. Reiter says changes have been made within the care home. Very caring staff around the province.
Speaker lectures members. Says “no where to go but up”. Calls it “ridiculous” and says members have an obligation to their constituents. #skpoli
