We're incredibly excited to announce that The National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (#Natsal) begins its fourth study on sexual health and well-being in Britain (Natsal-4) (THREAD 1/7 - continue reading) 👇
The National Surveys of Sexual Attitudes & Lifestyles are the world’s largest, most detailed studies of #sexualbehaviour. Three Natsal studies have taken place at the turn of each decade since 1990, with the next wave of data collection (#Natsal-4) due to begin in 2021. (2/7)
People are randomly selected, based on their postcodes, and invited to participate, so the surveys represent the general population in Britain. Read more about #Natsal’s robust approach here ➡️: sti.bmj.com/content/early/… (3/7)
In the next study (#Natsal-4), we'll collect information from nearly 10,000 people aged 15-59 using computerised questionnaires to ensure privacy. Our development work for Natsal-4 starts in 2019 to ensure that the questions asked are fit for purpose in 2021. (4/7)
Combining all four #Natsal surveys will create a resource that provides a comprehensive picture of the #sexualhealth of the nation and show how this has changed over time and across generations. (5/7)
With these exciting developments in store, now seems like a good time for us to finally join twitter! We'll be using this new account to share news of our progress, so please follow us @NatsalStudy (6/7)
The #Natsal-4 survey is funded by @wellcometrust's new Longitudinal Population Studies Strategy, with contributions from @ESRC and @OfficialNIHR. The study is led by researchers from @ucl in collaboration with @LSHTM, @UofGlasgow and @NatCen. (7/7)
