May holding firm on not participating in European elections. This is a very dangerous moment.
May confirms she is seeking extension until June 30th.
"As prime minister I am not prepared to delay Brexit any further than the 30th of June"
Fuck me she's shameless. Literally shameless.
What makes this so dangerous is that I don't think Labour has the spine to demand participation in the elections.
And I don't think she does either. I think she's banking on it.
We're back where I thought we would be when I wrote this politics.co.uk/blogs/2019/02/…
No.10 publishes May's extension letter
Corbyn predictably useless. Like a broken old jukebox of shite.
That whole exchange utterly vapid and immoral.
Toxic, false, utterly misleading, deeply harmful. There's no condemnation harsh enough for the appalling spectacle we're looking at.
The biggest insult to parliament is the complete indifference, in that letter, to the fact her deal has been defeated.
There is no effort to think of any other deal, or any other approach. Nothing. Just the endless bludgeoning drumbeat of her rejected nonsense.
Now Bone is up. Tells the prime minister she is "betraying" the British people if she seeks extension of Article 50.
People concluding from May's comments that she would quit if forced by parliament to hold longer extension. I doubt it. Nothing she says means anything.
She'll say anything. Anything. Just to survive another day. Today it means saying that. Last week it meant saying something else.
Ken Clarke: This House has voted clearly on her deal and no-deal. It hasn't voted on the range of options. Will she arrange indicative votes to be held next week? The govt promised this last week.
May: "The House has had many opportunities actually. The House has rejected alternatives to the govt's deal." So the commitment to indicative votes was a lie too.
We've never seen anything like this. Nothing the govt says can be believed.
This is what the deputy prime minister said last week.
And this is what May just told the Commons.
Ignore guff splatter of the withdrawal legislation. These statements simply cannot be reconciled.
One says got will either apply for a short or long extension and if long will "provide a process" for a majority.
Today May says she will not pursue a long extension, not consult with parties, and not provide the process.
