1. THREAD: Under-18 SRS. In posts provided by our source in the affirmative FB group, parents claim young teens are undergoing “bottom” surgery & early cross-sex hormones with (according to the posts) the approval of Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
2. Dr. Olson-Kennedy has publicly stated she believes current age limits on SRS should be loosened. On a public FB page in 2016, she advocates for a relaxation of the WPATH Standards of Care regarding vaginoplasty for teens.

3. More broadly, under-18 SRS is openly discussed in this 2017 Journal of Sexual Medicine paper by US surgeons (some of whom have serious ethical concerns)

4. Other providers quoted in the "Age is Just a Number" paper think it’s a good idea for high schoolers to get SRS, since their “busy schedules” in college might cause them to mess up their dilation schedule.
5. Returning to the leaked posts, in this thread from 2014, a parent excitedly discusses upcoming “MTF bottom surgery” for her 15-yr-old. Commenters seem to all be on board, praising the “pioneer” MD.
6. It’s “awesome” that insurance is covering the surgery. Therapist didn’t know much about gender, more interested in trauma and attachment issues. “Blockers by 11, cross hormones by 13, surgery by 15—that’s progress.”
7. There’s a substantial, enthusiastic market for these services. Again, we want to emphasize: These parents are merely following the advice and recommendations of licensed professionals. If gender docs/psychs weren’t on board with this, would parents be?

Yet another journo argues coverage of detransition, transition regret, or even *uncertainty* about gender identity will create "panic and fear." Even when we're talking about kids.

How many 1000s of words have been written re: successful transition, vs. detransition or regret?
Notice how here, as always, the only people whose opinions matter are (happily?) transitioned people. The voices of parents, detransitioners, skeptical clinicians--basically everyone else--don't matter at all, and shouldn't be heard.
This is the same argument used to go after Lisa Littman: Certain trans people find her work threatening, so she should be shut down, end of. It doesn't matter at all that even some *detransitioners* say her study reflects their experiences. They don't count. At all.

On March 20, trans writer/activist Brynn Tannehill tweeted a defamatory screed accusing Lisa Littman of trying to harm trans ppl & imputing nefarious motives to Littman & Lisa Marchiano. Read Brie Jontry's 13-tweet response below. Tannehill's thread here:
Meanwhile on the (public) Transgender Health FB page, Dr. Dan Karasic, a key member of WPATH & gender MD, calls Littman "lazy" & accuses her of concocting a "false hypothesis" (because someone wrote a book in 1997 about their late onset gender dysphoria?).

In the same thread, Tannehill appears to call Littman a "concern trolling Nazi" & "God help her if we ever cross paths." So much vitriol, all because Littman published an initial descriptive study of parental reports about their children's rapid onset gender dysphoria?

THREAD. I’ve seen a few questions on Mermaids’ treatment approach, so thought I’d pull together an explainer. The background is that there are three main approaches to transgender kids' healthcare, of which two are relevant here.
The model endorsed by the UK's only specialist NHS clinic (the Tavistock Centre) is called "Watchful Waiting”. “Watchful Waiting” involves letting a child develop in their own way allowing them the freedom to explore and play with their gender identity as they grow up.
80-95% of gender dysphoric children grow out of their dysphoria by adulthood without medical intervention so this model gives them some space to naturally resolve their feelings where possible.

@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 1/ Obviously the research is still used as a reason to delay affirming children as their real gender, so it is highly relevant. Children weren't treated as purely binary back then either; but to provide agonists/hormones, or not is a binary decision.

A kid not fearful of/hating the wrong puberty doesn't want that intervention.
