@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 1/ Obviously the research is still used as a reason to delay affirming children as their real gender, so it is highly relevant. Children weren't treated as purely binary back then either; but to provide agonists/hormones, or not is a binary decision.
@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 2/ That no one needs needs to be dysphoric to be trans is an example of why "trans" is not relevant, & should not be used in deciding which children need agonist/HRT internevention at Tanner2. A kid not fearful of/hating the wrong puberty doesn't want that intervention.
@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 3/ A valuable fact that emerges from some "desistance" research is that the single GIDC criteria common in those who presented pre-puberty & continued thru to hormones, & #SRS was stronger dysphoria, which was often those who presented earliest, just as Prof C-K said in 1995.
@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 4/ Zucker-inspired centres tended to not record, & may not have ever asked if pre-pubertal patients met that criteria (which was not obligatory for a GIDC diagnosis). An audit of GIDS found they had no such record for 1990s patients for whom they reported high "desistance" rates.
@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 5/ Why would 🇬🇧GIDS not record if patients met 2 of the 8 GIDC diagnostic criteria🖼️, when a diagnosis required meeting 6 or the 8? Perhaps in order to keep maintaining they were totally unable to tell which patients needed agonists? Right until they did their "research" on…
@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 6/…using agonists before puberty was completed, in the mid-2010s, their rules for their sub-contracted endocrine clinic were that patients must have completed puberty. What changed? Their peers clinics forced them to use the same "psychological instruments" as them…
@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 7/…for the "research", to find why their "desistence" was so much higher that those (🇺🇸🇨🇦🇳🇱) then feeling safe to intervene earlier. "Instruments" written by 🇳🇱Prof C-K. I would wager they cover physical dysphoria. 🇬🇧GIDS certainly ask now📽️
@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 8/ Yes, there certainly are trans people who don't want agonists/hormones/surgery, but the common idea that no one would need any of those if society was accepting is very wrong. When wonderful Nicole says in that…
@TeamGender @FierceMum @MavenOfMayhem 9/…she became comfortable with her body when accepted socially, she's skilfully advocating for allies to help acceptance. Her medical needs were another matter entirely. As she had from ~4yo, she still was dysphoric for (& had) #SRS at the earliest age then possible, 17 📽️.
