1. Earlier today it seemed possible there would be another vote on the PM's deal tomorrow... quickly disappeared not just because govt hasn't yet got the DUP on board but....
2. The 'Grand Wizards' (the new name for the Chequer's daytrippers apparently) also had another meeting this morning, were they discussed again whether they could get on board to back PM's deal and there was no firm conclusion
3. Discussion again about whether PM should promise to go, and if she did, whether she'd have to make that promise publicly, because there is a 'problem of trust'
4. One of those present said 'it's like the jelly keeps getting nailed to the wall again then you find out that it's fallen on the floor again'
just catching up on timeline, for avoidance of doubt, couple of insiders told me using the nickname informally, no intended connection to anything else

1. Govt source confirms they are laying motion NOW to give MP s vote tomorrow on only the withdrawal agreement - if it passes, Number 10 believes we will leave on May 22nd - it's the last chance, they say, to avoid a longer extension and parliamentary elections
2. Number 10 confident this works legally as EU Council conclusions last week only specified that the withdrawal agreement had to pass for ratification - (different to previous bill) govt then would publish withdrawal agreement bill next week - doesn't mean they are sure of a win
3. Bercow says vote can go ahead

1. So as things stand, it seems v unlikely govt will have another go at getting the complete deal thro Commons tomorrow - but there will be a debate on SOMETHING about leaving the EU - and we think a vote
2. One Cabinet minister says they think govt will have a vote only on the divorce deal, the withdrawal agreement, which Labour says they can't
3. A different Cab minister has just said they genuinely don't know what the debate and vote will be on - there has to be a decision by 5pm - i fear there will be a lot of consulting Erskine May and headaches this afternoon

1. Eyes on Commons now for debate over Letwin amendment to take control of Brexit process - a 100000000000000000000 caveats
2. Govt has accepted principle of giving time for MPs to do this anyway, and it's not impossible that govt will end up accepting Letwin plan much later in the debate tonight
3. Also not impossible that rebels don't quite have the numbers - some remainer minister-types might end up quitting in order to back plan and No 10 thinks Letwin will win, but never wise to assume anything these days

Right. #Brexit uncertainty abounds, but some things are pretty certain, and MPs' coming choices are now coming into sharp focus.

So take half a step back from Westminster fog, and perhaps it's not as quite as cloudy as it seems. Here's where we are #Brexit 1/Thread.
1. MPs can vote over May's divorce deal tomorrow. This is unlikely, I agree, but if they do, they have until May 22 to complete the paperwork.

If they do not back the deal, then the May 22 option is gone, per terms agreed with EU last week. /2
At which point, the UK is hurtling towards a 'no deal' - which MPs have rejected by 160-400 votes.

So assuming they don't want a 'no deal' what can they do?

They can activate second option, which is to ask the EU for a long extension. /3

Theresa May has said she'll quit if Parliament votes to approve her Brexit deal.
The only explanation is that the Brextremists plan to break the terms of the deal once she's gone. They'll try to pull us out of the backstop, violating what will then be international law.

These people have already allied themselves with the DUP, whose entire reason for being is to see Northern Ireland separated from the Republic, so expect recklessness towards the peace process. All while violating TWO international laws (Belfast Agreement & Brexit Deal).

1/3 Here’s the case for holding a series of indicative votes on Brexit. Parliament is currently deadlocked. MPs voted down the PM’s deal but haven’t yet agreed on an alternative, so why not see if there is a different approach that can command a majority?
2/3 The six options the @CommonsEUexit has identified are: 1. Hold another vote on the PM’s deal. 2. Leave with no deal. 3. Renegotiate the current deal. 4. Negotiate a Canada-style deal. 5. Negotiate a Norway-style deal with a customs union. 6. Hold a second referendum.
3/3 The PM says she is “talking and listening to people about what would secure the support of this House”. Well there’s a very simple way of trying to find the answer to that question. Let MPs vote on the different options.

A scenario/theory: Britain to leave the European Union, with the Withdrawal Agreement deal, but slightly (about 4-6 weeks)
after the current March 29th 2019 deadline.

How this might happen ...
Jan 15th Commons vote proceeds. Government is defeated. Lets say its about 240 votes to 400 (majority 160). Opposition united against (bar a handful). Some opposition MPs explain they oppose both no deal & a referendum but are voting no with the Labour whip to this deal now.
PM says deal still in national interest: no alternatives to it. Labour calls for election: DUP says support govt on confidence. ERG declares confidence in gvt (calling for no deal). Pro-EU Cons confidence (call for referendum)
* Conf vote not put, or is survived. Majority 6-10.
