1. Eyes on Commons now for debate over Letwin amendment to take control of Brexit process - a 100000000000000000000 caveats
2. Govt has accepted principle of giving time for MPs to do this anyway, and it's not impossible that govt will end up accepting Letwin plan much later in the debate tonight
3. Also not impossible that rebels don't quite have the numbers - some remainer minister-types might end up quitting in order to back plan and No 10 thinks Letwin will win, but never wise to assume anything these days
4. Even if MP s do go for these kinds of votes, there isn't necessarily a majority for any of the possible options, nor would the votes be binding on the government - doesn't mean it would have no impact politically, but they wouldn't force ministers to change course
5. Anyway... results after 10pm

1. Govt source confirms they are laying motion NOW to give MP s vote tomorrow on only the withdrawal agreement - if it passes, Number 10 believes we will leave on May 22nd - it's the last chance, they say, to avoid a longer extension and parliamentary elections
2. Number 10 confident this works legally as EU Council conclusions last week only specified that the withdrawal agreement had to pass for ratification - (different to previous bill) govt then would publish withdrawal agreement bill next week - doesn't mean they are sure of a win

1. So as things stand, it seems v unlikely govt will have another go at getting the complete deal thro Commons tomorrow - but there will be a debate on SOMETHING about leaving the EU - and we think a vote
2. One Cabinet minister says they think govt will have a vote only on the divorce deal, the withdrawal agreement, which Labour says they can't
3. A different Cab minister has just said they genuinely don't know what the debate and vote will be on - there has to be a decision by 5pm - i fear there will be a lot of consulting Erskine May and headaches this afternoon

1. Earlier today it seemed possible there would be another vote on the PM's deal tomorrow... quickly disappeared not just because govt hasn't yet got the DUP on board but....
2. The 'Grand Wizards' (the new name for the Chequer's daytrippers apparently) also had another meeting this morning, were they discussed again whether they could get on board to back PM's deal and there was no firm conclusion
3. Discussion again about whether PM should promise to go, and if she did, whether she'd have to make that promise publicly, because there is a 'problem of trust'

Thread: This week, as with all big Brexit weeks, the temptation will be to read the Tues/Weds/Thurs votes as numbers game – how close is May/government to being able to do x, y, z. But the numbers game is important for the EU too (remember them?) 1/
If May does much better than expected on MV, then the mood will reasonably be that No10 can have a third go and get it across the line. Her team will have a number of what they consider to be acceptable. The thing is, the EU does too (replace acceptable with indicative) 2/
According to EU sources I've talked to, expectations range from a loss of 75 to over 200. But anything over 75 is considered to be curtains for the deal. That's where the numbers game on the other two votes comes into play. 3/

First of all, the most obvious thing: Corbyn did this move not only because of a new Brexit strategy but above all because of a party strategy: the hemorrhage of moderate or outraged MPs had to be stopped somehow. The Independent group surely was concerning him. We’ll see.
Sure this move won’t stop the MPs shocked by the accusations of antisemitism, but it might have a good impact on the europhile ones. The new mantra is clear: until the choice is between May’s deal and No Deal, the new Labour weapon is a new, 2nd referendum.

So. Tomorrow the House of Commons will vote on a series of possible amendments to Theresa May's 'Plan B' - or rather the 'plan of action to achieve a Plan B' - which itself officially reads as follows:
The amendment most likely to pass – and therefore the one on which most attention has been paid – is this one from Conservative party chairman Sir Graham Brady. It's effectively an instruction to go back and seek *some unstated other way* to avoid a hard border in Ireland:
Tonight, Theresa May has asked her backbenchers to vote in favour of this amendment. She is basically asking them to tie her hands, so that Brussels will clearly know what it would take to win the Commons' backing for any deal.

1/ % of May’s deal passing are rising. DUP/Eurosceptics sounding more conciliatory; big mood change yesterday. But still v long way to go. ERG suspect May will hide behind Commons on A50 extension. Peace moves could be overtaken by events (backbench amendments)
2/ EU’s concern with Brexit is growing; no longer simple occupation of TF50, WPA50, COREPER and Sherpas; many more voices now involved as clock runs down to no-deal. But #Brexit still not biggest concern for EU—yet. So what is?

1) Thread - All Brexits are bad and what we voted for
It's often said by brexiters that "it's not all about economics"
However, the *actual* Leave campaign was almost wholly about economic arguments

With the leak of this 2-8% report those arguments are now trashed
2) We seem to have forgotten this however economics played a huge part in the Vote Leave campaign, making up over 2/3rds of the primary arguements. The clear message was we would at the least be no worse off and at best much better off. 4 of the 6 below state this clearly
3) & the fact is voters believed we would be no worse off. People prioritized immigration certainly, but against a backdrop of there being no consequences from Brexit - few are prepared to actually pay for ending FoM
