Some good questioning here by Wolf. There is no good explanation for why team Trump did not inform the FBI of the multiple times Russians or other foreign entities had reached out to them to offer assistance in the election.
I can think of two possible explanations, one lame (and mostly implausible) and the other quite damning.
Explanation 1: Team Trump was incompetent and clueless.
Explanation 2: They didn't want to raise red flags w/ the FBI because they were still pursuing the Moscow tower deal.
This gets at what I take to be the key takeaway from this edition of The Daily. Trump covered up plenty of crimes during his time in office, but just not the crime of collusion. nytimes.com/2019/03/26/pod…
The speculation here (and it is just speculation of course) is that Mueller punted on obstruction because the crimes Trump was trying to cover up were things like the Stormy Daniels payoffs/campaign finance crimes. Those were outside Mueller's mandate to search for collusion.
So what may have happened here is that Trump was obstructing like crazy because his many low-key crimes (from money laundering to tax evasion to paying off Daniels) were going to be uncovered. So he was still obstructing investigations into actual crimes, just not THE crime.
This is close to the scenario I imagined back in August when I wrote this piece about how growing up in small town America colored my perception of Trump's distinctive variety of corruption/criminality. medium.com/@sethcotlar/wh…
