There are no such things as 'environment and climate emergencies'.
There are emergencies caused by weather. There always have been. But weather causes fewer emergencies than in the past.

So what's behind this MP's declaring an emergency?
It would be helpful if @SueHayman1 were to explain who is experiencing the 'environment and climate emergency', where it is occurring, and what data exist to show its existence.

I very much doubt that she can.
Will her unwillingness or inability to demonstrate that an 'environment and climate emergency' exist cause her to withdraw her declaration and her request to @michaelgove?

It seems unlikely, doesn't it.

*Who* is telling these children that they are going to die in 12 years time?

Why is that belief not being challenged by schools, teachers, news media, politicians and campaigning organisations? Why are they instead promoting it?

Here's a clue...
Those children do not seem old enough even to read.

Yet here is a "scientist" teaching them about climate change. And the school is proudly showing that this is how it treats children.

Tell me that there's anything good about that.

Greens turning on WWF.

But make no mistake, greens are no friends of any peoples who aspire to more than subsistence. Greens only like indigenous peoples for their lifestyle and their concomitant inability to assert themselves politically. They can be pushed around,.
The moment indigenous people make any choice to move away from their traditional lifestyles -- or refuse to be co-opted into their campaigns against certain industries -- they are abandoned by greens.
It's as true in the Arctic as it is in Africa. Greens will claim to defend indigenous peoples' rights. But only to the extent that indigenous people agree with greens.

The problem for green NGOs is that most indigenous people living in the Arctic recognise the value of oil.

As I replied to @EricHolthaus- I'm aware of and inspired by @givingwhatwecan & @GiveWell work on global health/poverty; I personally want to support climate mitigation. I realize there's no one right answer, depends on theory of change etc; curious to hear different perspectives.
Esp. in climate arena where impact could be on different possible levels (eg X tons avoided from cookstoves vs Y tons #fossil CO2 kept in the ground vs systemic political or economic change)- curious to hear diverse range of theory of change or evidence of effectiveness.

You must immediately say "No, we understand all observed warming is now human caused, overwhelming any natural changes."

You're confusing "weather" and "climate." The world as a whole is warming. One cold day in one place doesn't disprove global climate science.

 If they say "The scientists are only in it for the money" you have two choices:

Say either "Scientists get paid far less than fossil fuel lobbyists & climate deniers, & whatever they're paid has no effect on the validity of the science."
Or call me for a "Fuck you" response.

Scientists are once again warning about #climate armageddon. Thousands vetted the best science out there. More extinction, death and disease is in store if we don't act fast.

But I think we should focus on something uncomfortable: for many people, this is meaningless. /1
Let’s be clear: the IPCC report is a tour de force. Over 90 scientists spent years writing it, based on over 6,000 peer reviews. It says the planetary warming ALREADY caused “will persist for centuries to millennia.” It says we’re not acting fast enough to cut pollution. /2
The report adds to the vast global scientific consensus, based on an overwhelming body of evidence, that we’re pushing the planet into DANGEROUS and destructive warming conditions, by burning fossil fuels at industrial scales, and dumping carbon pollution into the air. /3

Just returned from Bangkok, where nations made little progress towards finalising the Paris agreement on climate change that aims to limit global temperature rises over the next 80 years.

It was my first @UN #climate change rodeo and there were a few things I wasn't aware of
Under Paris, countries agreed to a fairly detailed set of promises to keep global temperature rises under 2C by 2100.

It was the first time all nations - both developed and developing economies - signed up to the same set of climate rules. But they weren't binding
Parties gave themselves in effect 3 years to come up with a text agreed by everyone, ratified, and translated into national law on a state-by-state basis. The idea is the accord isn't legally binding, but the rulebook it provides could be on a national level

My essay is only concerned with climate change-related damages in the US spurred, as I argue, by US actors like the oil majors. I could’ve written about Peruvian villagers suing a German energy giant & melting glaciers in the Andes, but that’s beyond the scope of my article.

CIG knows that they're going to lose the battle to delay or get around discovery. So they're getting ahead of themselves, knowing that if Crytek files a complaint with the judge, they would be even more compelled to comply.
From the previous filing, we already knew they were already in a battle over this, and sources tell me that it has been heating up since then. Which explains this filing.
