As it stands NO British food products or animals could be exported to the EU in the event of a No Deal Brexit, according to EU officials. It's because the UK still hasn't passed enough legislation for the EU to recognise it as a third country. (1)
EU officials say they've been told by their British counterparts that the necessary statutory instruments will be passed by 8th April. EU experts are planning to meet on 9th and 11th April to assess the situation (2)
This is something @michaelgove warned about in a speech in February. (3)

Yesterday @MichelBarnier told EU27 ambassadors that either the Withdrawal Agreement is passed, or the UK will face a No Deal scenario or a long extension to the Brexit process with participation in the European Parliament elections, according to a note of the meeting (1)
MB also noted that if 8 more MPs voted for a permanent customs union then the government's mandate could be changed. It might then only take 48hrs to update the Political Declaration. He suggested a customs union would reduce the "drama" of the backstop. (2)
Officials said that if the deal isn't passed by midnight tonight then @eucopresident will call an emergency summit in the days before 12th April, where leaders will have to decide if the conditions have been met for an extension lasting until end of 2019 or slightly longer. (3)

After a 90-minute meeting with @MartinSelmayr in Brussels this morning MPs from @CommonsEUexit say the EU would consider legally-binding assurances on the Withdrawal Agreement if it helped get the deal through Parliament., (1)
One idea floated in the meeting was turning the letter to the PM in January from Presidents Tusk and Juncker into a legally-binding attachment to the Withdrawal Agreement. (2)
The chair @hilarybennmp made a personal suggestion that Article 50 be extended to allow details of the future UK/EU relationship to be negotiated so that the backstop was less likely to be needed. (3)

EU leaders are considering a commitment to continue negotiating a trade deal with the U.K. even if the Irish backstop comes into force - to prove that they want it to be temporary. (1)
This is part of a two-stage reassurance process that will start at the December summit and could continue into January. It’s spelled out in draft summit conclusions circulating this evening. (2)
Some will quibble that this isn’t a legally binding commitment - yet - and that it’s only making explicit something that’s implied in the Withdrawal Agreement, a document that WILL NOT BE RENEGOTIATED. (3)

I'm dimly aware that only a dozen people will ever read this, but as someone with some inside knowledge of the car industry I think it's very important to explain in some detail why #Brexit MUST have been a factor in the closure of #Honda's Swindon plant
To do this, I'll explain two concepts that will be familiar to those of you in manufacturing, but less so to the rest. They are "Just in time manufacturing" and " lean processing". You'll have heard the former in the news a fair bit I expect
"Just in time" refers to the supply chain. In basic terms it means that you get the parts/materials/etc you need, but crucially you get the amount you need, at the place you need them, at the exact time you need them

Thread: The U.K. Govt. confirmed what was suspected (and what the @ukhomeoffice have hinted at in private talks) that, in the event of a no-deal #Brexit, free movement will end on 29/03/2019. For #EUcitizens arriving after this date, they face a new temporary system.
The Immigration and Social Security Co-ordination (EU Withdrawal) Bill, once enacted, will repeal the Immigration (European Economic Area) Regulations 2016, which currently implement free movement in UK law.
This system will be a temporary transitional system running from 30/03/2019 and until 31/12/2020, to give the U.K. Govt. time to implement the new immigration system on 01/01/2021.

1. For a while it very seriously looked like aircraft would be grounded in the event of a no deal #Brexit. Looking at the legalities, it was a reasonable assumption to make. There are, however, contingency measures. (Thread)
2. This is not to say that we are out of the woods. In the EU's own words, "These measures will only ensure basic connectivity and in no means replicate the significant advantages of membership of the Single European Sky."
So what is "basic connectivity"?...
3. This means only the basic four of the "nine freedoms". This means UK airlines will be able to overfly airspace of Member States, make landings for technical purposes and fly passengers from UK directly to destinations within EU, and pick up passengers headed back to the UK.

1. This is a particularly boring thread but if this doesn't make the point about a no deal #Brexit then nothing will. It relates to an obscure story in the @FarmersGuardian last August and a blunder by the EU Commission.
2. The European Commission failed to re-authorise the Red Tractor assurance scheme, along with four different schemes from other member states, despite the application for re-approval being lodged six months prior.
3. The unexplained gaffe meant farmers whose grain was destined for the biofuels market were been left in the lurch, with some having to fork out for interim storage. No paperwork or tick in a box equals no trade. That's how the system works.
