I support everyone’s right to complain about tech industry stuff. Epic’s store, with exclusive games and a spartan feature set, is a fine target for ire. But please help separate facts and opinions from the lies about spyware and foreign control.

I’m the controlling shareholder in Epic Games, and have been since 1991. We have a number of outside investors now. Tencent is the largest. All of Epic’s investors our friends and partners. None can dictate decisions to Epic. None have access to Epic customer data.
Tencent is a Chinese company founded in 1998. CEO Pony Ma and the other co-founders played a lot of Unreal Tournament back then, and visited Epic in the early 2000’s. In 2012 Epic was looking to move to online games, and we invited Tencent in as an investor to help us.
I’ve never regretted it, and the recent anti-China rage doesn’t change that even slightly, as its completely unfounded. Epic has only had positive interactions with Tencent at all levels.
All of Epic’s big decisions are made here in the USA and as CEO I’m 100% responsible for them. I’m grateful for everyone who has spoken in support. I also read and respectfully consider all dissenting arguments of fact and principle. Just please keep it real.

Did Unity just prohibit all cloud-hosted multiplayer games? You couldn’t operate Fortnite, PUBG, or Rocket League under these terms.
We put enormous effort into the Unreal Engine EULA to ensure everyone has access to the full source, can share all their changes with other licensees (including commercially), and can operate lasting services and business around the engine with confidence.
We specifically make the UE4 EULA apply perpetually so that when you obtain a version under a given EULA, you can stay on that version and operate under that EULA forever if you choose.

Meeting you,@alexisohanian, and @hueypriest at that party was one part of the catalyst that got me into the tech industry. I met REAL people who built an awesome thing that people LOVED. You brought tech into a reality for me in a way that my non-famous nerd friends did not. 2/10

In June 2017, @HarvardBiz published an article questioning the discrepancy in VC funding for #entrepreneurs of different genders.

In the US, #female entrepreneurs own 38% of the businesses in the country yet receive only about 2% of all venture funding in the whole country!
Some of you answered the poll that the reason for this phenomenon is that there is a lack of female VCs.

The #data however speaks otherwise; the number of female VCs has increased to 7% from 3% in 2014 and yet the funding gap has only increased.

Why does this happen?

[THREAD] I’d like to take a break from sharing & commenting on political news reports for a moment & just offer some personal observations from where I sit in the DOJ

As always, I don’t speak for the @TheJusticeDept. These are just my personal thoughts, feelings, & observations
I’ve worked in multiple parts of the DOJ, including in the @FBI. I worked closely with Mueller, and like to feel like I got to know him fairly well. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him, and for his integrity
But more importantly, I got to know the FBI and other parts of DOJ. Wording it that way is part of our current problem, though. There is no “FBI” and “DOJ”. They aren’t monolithic beings with single thoughts. There are the *people* who work at the FBI and DOJ

Now that the #netneutrality vote has happened, here are my rules as a #consumer and #Customer that I will use to decide who gets my dollar bills.

1>$ I will be subscribing to the services and providers who voluntarily maintain the closest model of #netneutrality.

If @Comcast starts charging for prioritized services, I will not only opt for the cheapest and most basic plan possible...
2>$ ...I will move to any other #ISP that maintains fair and open access. I will move to a new neighborhood if I must.

I can go back to cellular or satellite internet, or 1995-style #dialup if it means supporting fair and open access providers. 96kb #ISDN? I'm lovin it.
