Something v. important to be clear on regarding federal prosecutors' freedom of action to prosecute Trump related cases (putting Trump himself to one side b/c of OLC). While it's true Barr now, formally, controls *all* federal prosecutions, in every jurisdiction, it's NOT true
that Barr can, in practice, reach down into SDNY, USADC and other offices and blatantly interfere, for political reasons, with perfectly good and legitimate cases that those offices want to pursue. There wd be massive insurrection in the ranks and DOJ wd grind to a standstill.+
Needless to say, the country, too, would be in an uproar. We have rarely, if ever, seen any such politically motivated interference w/ professional prosecutors. Foreign dictators have imagined they cd get this WH to pull that stunt for them (Turkey/Zarrab last summer), but
not even this WH and this DOJ dared try. Bottom line: for Barr to try to spike SDNY or other federal cases related to Trump's family or business, or any of his close associates, or his campaign, would be to invite immediate impeachment for abuse of authority and obstruction.
