The electric crisis in Zulia is very different from other states, not only because the blackouts are longer and the consequences are much more severe, but also because it isn't new.

In 2018, the region suffered an unprecedented crisis that lasted months. There were millions of losses in butcher shops and thousands of rotten liters of milk.
In morgues, corpses bloated due to the lack of electric power and some people auctioned rotten meat.

Soccer fans were also affected during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. People—including me—went to malls with emergency power generators to be able to enjoy it.

I wrote about it for @CaracasChron

Although the spotlight is on Maracaibo, the capital, rural zones have it worse, much worse.
La Guajira spent more than 20 days without power.
After the first blackout on March 7th, looting started and extended for days causing losses of more than $50 million in more than 500 businesses. Organized crowds looted stores, while authorities did little or nothing.

The worst past is the cynicism with which authorities handled the situation. For example, Lisandro Cabello said that a group of people were attacking electric transformers using kites.

Yes, crazy...

Besides, while the entire region faces hardships without power, they stay at 5-star hotels as some chavista representatives have denounced.
From the apartment where I live, the only building that can be seen with power every night is Maruma Hotel.

But the worst thing, without a doubt, is having to listen and see how people you love break down over the situation.
