Incoming: Long Thoughts On A Game History Thing
I'm going to make a big splashing thing tomorrow, it will get a lot of attention. That's not interesting in itself, but I did want to mention something that happens every time I do this.
It'll drop down into the usual sets of discussion places. Hackernews and Reddit usually have a cold-war battle for the worst hot takes, with a lot of people getting hung up on this or that minor point and it goes on for dozens of postings, usually engulfing any useful topics.
Press tends to come in one of two forms: people who talk to me and people who don't. The ones who don't are under a deadline to sometimes produce 6 stories a day (!!) and so they'll copy my tweets and maybe take a screenshot and WHOOPS IT IS UP. And then some will just copy THAT.
If the news breaks wide enough (and this is probably going to), I might get press deciding to annoy original potential game companies and say AND WHAT DO YOU THINK and there's never been a company that has said NO COMMENT or WE DON'T CARE. So, here, the Press is just agitating.
and of course people go "will you get IN TROUBLE" and I'm always interested at what IN TROUBLE means and if they mean I'm going to jail this would be an amazing thing to go to jail for. HE GAME HISTORY'D HIMSELF INTO A NICKEL IN THE PEN would be quite a wikipedia line
Mostly, I do these sorts of things because, and this has happened so many times, word gets to a person with a hoard or collection who goes "oh... maybe you want this too?" and I generally go "yes, please, how can I help you transfer it". A bunch of otherwise-lost stuff shows up.
So yeah, another day, another big announcement, I'm sure it'll be exciting tomorrow, but remember - if you really think I'm doomed for doing it, then I'm sorry - game history is dead and it doesn't know it.
