Two nights ago, an armed civilian militia organization describing itself as the “United Constitutional Patriots” arrested nearly 300 people seeking safety here, including young children, in New Mexico. Other videos appear to show even more recent arrests.
The vigilante members of the organization, who posted videos and photographs of the unlawful arrests, are not police or law enforcement and they have no authority under state or federal law to detain or arrest migrants.
The Trump administration has emboldened white nationalists to flagrantly violate the law.

This has no place in our country — we cannot allow armed civilians to kidnap and detain people seeking asylum.

@ACLUNM is urging the governor to immediately investigate.

📣 Critical update in our family separation litigation:

Today we filed our response to the Trump administration's proposal that allows it up to 2 YEARS just to identify the potentially thousands more children it separated from their parents.

Everything about its plan is flawed.
Let’s be clear: These children were separated from their parents at least 10 months ago — before June 26, 2018.

The government's suggestion that these families can afford to wait years to be reunited shows a callous disregard for their wellbeing and should be rejected.
The government swiftly gathered resources to tear families apart. It MUST do the same to fix the damage.

We believe this work can be done in three months and we’re asking the judge to order the government to do so.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on the Russia investigation MUST be made public.

Elected officials work for the people. We have a right to know if President Trump and his associates coordinated with Russia to interfere in our elections.
If the Department of Justice doesn't make the Mueller report public, Congress should use its subpoena powers to ensure the truth sees the light of day.

This is exactly what actual Border Patrol agents do not want in their midst. Not only do they behave illegally, but they often steal resources from Border Patrol & US Military who’ve been deployed to safe guard an area.

Cartels are enemies of both the American people and ordinary Mexican people. In my years of working and traveling throughout Mexico, I met countless business owners in Mexico who had been extorted and terrorized by cartels. Our @POTUS @realDonaldTrump understands this reality.

Two nights ago Dr Ford’s legal team sent a long list of demands to Chairman Grassley’s team as conditions under which Dr. Ford is willing to testify.

(Prefaced with the fact that Dr. Ford told her story to the Washington Post on Sunday, and her lawyers went a media blitz on Monday declaring repeatedly that she was ready she willing to testify and “do whatever it takes.”)

One very reasonable request Dr. Ford’s lawyers made was with regard to safety.

Threats against Dr Ford’s family should be investigated and guilty parties should be prosecuted.

The capable and professional Capitol Police will ensure her safety when she visits.

Two nights ago I posted a rather lengthy thread detailing the horrific harassment being faced by the family of two now-former Riot employees after a coworker leaked internal communications to KiA, the board used to single-out targets for far right attacks:
Slightly less than 24 hours later, I found myself the target of a harassment campaign. Something I frankly knew would be inevitable as a result of breaking this story.

What I was not expecting would be that this campaign would be bizarrely focused on a search through my entire
twitter history, and those of several others (including some I haven't spoken to in forever) looking for any possible evidence that I might have some sort of grudge against one specific Riot employee, which is rather odd as I named no one as responsible, nor would I have a name.

Armed taliban and Afghan soldiers hugged and took selfies last night in Logar to celebrate the first day of Eid's dual cease-fires.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Raziq Safi went to investigate reports of armed taliban milling around. He got out of his suv, and hugged and took photos with known taliban such as these two youth (said to be taliban by soldiers in the ANA 203rd Corps. @starsandstripes.
The general's driver, Sgt. Maida Gul, threw up his hands. "This has never happened before!" He drove off to the safety of a checkpoint. There, some known Taliban recognized the general's vehicle. They approached, armed, but wanted to find the general for selfies @starsandstripes
