Incredible. Emma Thompson flew from LA to London to join a protest about climate change sponsored by a group that argues air travel should be restricted to emergencies.

These are not serious people.

People would take the alarmism a lot more serious if ANY of these people behaved as if they actually believed the things they say.
Hilarious. Thompson explains that she’s doing her part by flying less, but flying economy is just too much of a sacrifice to demand of her to deal with this existential crisis.

Someone who makes 50K a year w/ 0 assets shouldn't be able to take out a mortgage for a million dollar house. The solution to a system that allows them to do that is not to have taxpayers cover the mortgages, but to make sure there are consequences to banks giving them out.
Similarly, someone shouldn't be able to take out 200K to get a degree in gender studies or another field that would make it unlikely they could ever pay it back, but they can now because those loans are financed by the government.
We should have a system where, like with other loans, you have to make the lender responsible for only giving out loans that are likely to be paid back. The solution isn't to reward bad loans, but to create real consequences for them.

Absolute nonsense to make responsible people pay off their own student loans and then also pay off the student loans of other people via taxes.

This is just trying to buy votes with taxpayer money.
The whole reason we have such such an issue with student loans was government intervention led to skyrocketing tuition costs. These proposals exacerbate the problem and shift the burden while doing nothing to manage costs.
Here is an actual proposal that would help diminish the problem moving forward and provide relief to those who actually need it:

This is either intentionally dishonest or ignorant. The crimes were perjury and obstruction. The evidence for each were significant, but spin like this and partisan support benefited BC. Clinton lied, tried to bribe witnesses, and tried to convince others to lie under oath.
Trying to portray it as removal over a bj gives away the game because it shows you don’t actually care about process crimes like obstruction. And yet you are arguing for Trump to be impeached over those same process crimes (only w evidence that is less clear).
I’m open to arguments that attempted obstruction is sufficient for impeachment, but not from hacks who want to dismiss it and perjury in Clinton’s case.

On this #EarthDay I want to chat briefly about @ProjectDrawdown, which is a global research collective examining the best solutions available to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and sequester carbon.
Drawdown is a really critical framework for thinking about how our actions on the planet - from land management, to food systems, to energy systems, to systems of subjugation - alter the atmosphere and contribute to climate warming.
There is a great deal of focus on certain aspects of climate change. We focus on coal, fossil fuels, air travel, and energy efficiency. These are all important.
And yet, to these conversations on energy transitions often skip over a more fundamental framework which is key.

That resolution is simple: it says

1⃣ #climatechange is real
2⃣caused by humans, and
3⃣Congress must take action now.

Those are things we know companies represented on the @USChamber’s board support.
So the largest lobbying organization in the country ought to join us and act on behalf of its members who stand to benefit from a transition to a #cleanenergy economy.

THREAD| Draft of the #Climate Change Act, presented by (@bmu) this week: The proposal is a framework law, featuring elements from international acts, e.g. from UK (@theCCCuk). In contrast to the German Climate Action Plan 2050, it will be legally binding. #Klimaschutzgesetz
2| The framework law includes emission reduction targets, defines CO2 budgets for each sector, and clarifies responsibilities, as well as review, transparency & sanctioning mechanisms. Implementation measures for each sector will be detailled in 2030 programmes, due in Mar 2019.
3| Progress will be supported by an independent advisory group of 7 experts. Focus is on reaching the 2030 CO2 reduction targets, but the draft works towards at least 95% reduction by 2050. The remaining 5% to reach #netzero could be reached through compensation policies.

Just returned from Bangkok, where nations made little progress towards finalising the Paris agreement on climate change that aims to limit global temperature rises over the next 80 years.

It was my first @UN #climate change rodeo and there were a few things I wasn't aware of
Under Paris, countries agreed to a fairly detailed set of promises to keep global temperature rises under 2C by 2100.

It was the first time all nations - both developed and developing economies - signed up to the same set of climate rules. But they weren't binding
Parties gave themselves in effect 3 years to come up with a text agreed by everyone, ratified, and translated into national law on a state-by-state basis. The idea is the accord isn't legally binding, but the rulebook it provides could be on a national level

My essay is only concerned with climate change-related damages in the US spurred, as I argue, by US actors like the oil majors. I could’ve written about Peruvian villagers suing a German energy giant & melting glaciers in the Andes, but that’s beyond the scope of my article.

Good questions @RedsforNamesake. If confronting #climate change is your priority, it is imperative to ramp up carbon-free energy asap.

1. NJ will now ramp up renewable energy from 13% in 2017 and 20% by 2020 under old RPS to 35% by 2025 & 50% by 2030. Impressive leadership.
2. To ensure that this new clean energy replaces fossil fuels and contributes to #climate mitigation goals, NJ's new laws also make payments to ensure the continued operation of 3 South Jersey nuclear reactors that currently supply 31% of the state's electricity consumption.
2. Cont.: That measure is essential and ensures that nearly all of the new clean energy growth over the next 12 years builds on top of the fossil-free foundation provided by the state's existing nuclear plants.
