Re Mueller report: Big picture, the obstruction charge is directly connected to the conspiracy. In a way the entire obstruction saga shows consciousness of guilt re conspiracy - why would someone go to such extents to cover up something that "never happened"?
Having read voraciously about this since the release of the report, it's very clear to me that the reason conspiracy charges weren't brought was that the level of proof wasn't met. As anybody who remembers the OJ Simpson trial knows, that does NOT mean innocence.
Putin conspired to get Trump into the White House. MBZ, MBS, and Bibi helped. Trump's campaign conspired right back. Mueller couldn't find enough evidence not because they didn't do it, but because the bar was set too high, and they covered up after themselves well.
Does this invalidate the integrity of the 2016 US elections? Was Russian interference a determining factor in Trump's victory? I don't know, and frankly at this point I don't think anybody really knows (that would require another investigation).
What's a deeper threat to democracy in the US? How does Russian interference compare to gerrymandering, voter suppression, the electoral college, money in politics? Russian interference may have given Trump a push, but US democracy wasn't in tip-top health to begin with
But whichever side of this question you're on, to pretend that the whole conspiracy thing is a nothing burger, to pretend that it doesn't matter, to pretend that it's not a threat to the integrity of US democratic institutions... is just moronic.
