A quick addition, having endured Nigel Farage, Claire Fox and Anne Widdecombe on the news today. We know that the Brexit party doesn't trust MPs to deliver Brexit, and that it wants them to get on with it. We know that it is appealing to democracy. But... 1/
What sort of Brexit does it want to see? Does it reject the WA? If so, what is the plan for 'no deal'? I have heard half-hearted questions, which are easily batted away. 2/
They should be asked to set out their Brexit vision, and how it is to be achieved from here. They are the Brexit party. Surely they need to be able to tell us what they think Brexit is, and how they hope to achieve it. Surely... 3/3

I've seen a number of threads today on Remain's failure to campaign effectively against Farage and the populist Brexit Party. I've long argued that there is a fundamental flaw in Remain's strategy. That flaw plays into the Brexit Party's hands. 1/
The fundamental flaw is that Remain is asking for a People's Vote, and that it is not asking for revoke. (My case for Revoke, from December, is here: blogs.lse.ac.uk/brexit/2018/12…) 2/
A people's vote would make sense in a world in which we (the UK) had a settled path for Brexit, and MPs wanted to assess whether there was sufficient popular support for that Brexit. 3/

Struggling to work out who to vote for in the European elections? Here's a quick (not entirely serious) guide. 1/
Happy with Theresa May's approach to Brexit? Want to get Brexit 'over the line'? Then vote Conservative. As soon as the deal is done, and the next (more difficult) phase of negotiations begins, TM will be gone. All bets will be off. It may be a bumpy ride. 2/
Committed to honouring the result of the referendum? Determined to end the divide between leave and remain? Then vote Labour. We will neither leave nor remain. Or perhaps we will both leave and remain. I can't be sure. And there will be a people's vote on a table somewhere. 3/

Early skirmishing about the EP elections (which are, unless a deal is miraculously agreed, passed, and ratified in the next few weeks, heading our way at the end of May) - is, I'm afraid, wearily depressing. A quick thread. 1/
The elections are not, and cannot be, a proxy for a second referendum. That is because there is (still) no concrete version of leave which 'Brexit parties' unite in espousing, and no agreed path towards remain upon which 'remain parties' agree. 2/
I'm hoping for clearer signals from the various parties, and closer interrogation of their positions in the media. Let's hope that we begin to see some of that. 3/

2/ Editor & co-founder of Westmonster, Michael Heaver, is standing for the Brexit Party in the European parliamentary elections. In the article announcing his candidacy, there was no mention of Heaver stepping away from the website for the campaign period. #SFFN

Claire Fox was one of the mongs who went out with the "invoke Article 50 now" banners the week after the referendum knowing nothing about the process, caring nothing for detail and has learned nothing since. A carpetbagger spouting empty rhetoric. Farage with a vagina.

She'll trot out all the slogans "largest mandate in history" etc but has no more idea of what's involved in the process than any of the other Brexit blob morons. She hasn't thought about a destination for Brexit much less having an idea of what she actually wants to achieve.
She'll go on the telly and the radio to blether about democracy, claiming that anyone who voted leave voted for her own version of it - ie anything that isn't no deal is somehow a betrayal of Brexit - operating from a position of TOTAL ignorance.

In this thread, we would like to address a few brexit issues. But before we do, we would like you to look up the terms 'Potemkin Village' and 'force multiplier' #brexit
2/ In the UK, there has *NEVER* been a demand for a hard brexit. @_SimonBarnett can get you some stats on this. And the Tory backbench MPs who kept the flame of euroscepticism alive for decades talked about a Swiss style deal with the EU or a Norway deal, an FTA at the least.
3/ But then in a approximately 11 year period a perfect storm grew - A: the EU pushed for more treaty powers B: The EU wished to expand and incorporate new member states C: The media started reporting more about interfering "Brussels Bureaucrats".

1. The impossibility of meaningful treaty reform. We cannot edit the supranationalist DNA of the EU
2. The exclusion of the public from decisions relating to further integration. See Treaty of Lisbon.
3. The way in which the EU will seek homogenisation and integration for its own sake and for that of EU ideology over practical necessity.
