Took a look at new CB Julian Love from ND. 5’11” 195 lbs 2.5 year starter in a cpl diff defenses. Was a boundary corner mostly (always goes to short side of field), & comfortable in both press and off coverage (more frequent) #GiantsPride
Soft Press
Solid patience able to Mirror and Match WR early in route. Solid twitch capable of playing through the catch point reading WR’s eyes to find ball. Good rep, think he can handle majority of snaps this way against NFL level competition #GiantsPride
Limitations
Not speaking out of school, his length, play speed, and hands lack at times. This rep vs. a now Eagle WR, he does everything right with good body control, etc,. But his length limits against the long-armed JJAW & just can not get the PBU #GiantsPride
Blitz Ability
Not gonna lie saw only 1 rep of Love blitzing in 3-4 games. BUT he times the snap, flashes a mini Arm Over move, & keeps speed through contact pretty well… it’s intriguing. Bettcher’s DBs are required to blitz, especially those in the slot #GiantsPride
Slot?
On that note, not sure his profile fits for the #Giants NB position. Bettcher basically always sets Haley (NB)to the field, and it requires a lot of responsibilities in space. Does not mean JL CAN’T do it, just maybe not as he transitions to the NFL #GiantsPride
Slot? (2)
Good example here of a Quarters variation NYG plays, where */NB Haley has a lot of ground to cover getting downhill to the WR screen. Shows good finish. Believe that it would take time for Love to get comfortable driving down hill and finishing #GiantsPride
Conclusion
Love has the flexibility to play multiple coverages on the outside, but like him best in press. Has habits(footwork, Hand Usage) that he will need to clean up. Could see him playing CB outside (bumping a guy like Beal to slot) in certain 3rd down packages #GiantsPride
