Under current laws, if an employer illegally withholds wages from an employee, the employee can only go after them for max 6 months of wages. These Employment Standards Act changes will increase the recovery period to 12 months, and up to 24 months in some situations. #bcpoli
We are also getting rid of the infamous "Self-Help Kit" that required workers to try to confront employers on issues like wage theft on their own before the Employment Standards Branch would step in. Needless to say, many workers choose not to try this. #bcpoli
The changes to the Employment Standards Act will also provide job-protected leaves for workers trying to escape domestic violent as well as workers on leave to care for critically-ill family members. #betterlabourlaws4bc
Collective agreements will also become subject to the minimum requirements of the Employment Standards Act. This means workers cannot be made to "sign away" their basic employment rights just because they're bargaining collectively. #betterlabourlaws4bc #bcpoli
