Here are the 3 biggest companies in the world @Microsoft, @amazon, @Apple re. @DominionEnergy: "We are writing to express concern regarding the re-stated intentions of energy providers to meet our energy demand with expensive fossil fuel projects." ceres.org/sites/default/… 1/8
More from these massive tech companies and @DominionEnergy customers: "Companies providing or using data centers want to power our operations with renewable energy resources like wind and solar. When procured competitively, renewable energy allows us to save money." 2/8
And here's the 3 biggest companies *in the world* essentially picking a fight with @DominionEnergy and joining the ranks of #NoACP: "Grid planners should take these points into account before building expensive fossil fuel infrastructure projects..." 3/8
... "Any such investments should be closely assessed for their lifetime cost to ratepayers (for both the infrastructure and associated fuel costs), the likelihood of becoming an early stranded asset, and actual customer demand for fossil fuel-powered electricity." 4/8
For those who haven't obsessively tracked tech companies' requests for utilities to lead or get out of the way on providing them with renewable energy, this reads to me as an escalation. The tone of the letter is more aggressive than previous editions... 5/8
Earlier such letters have pulled some punches. This one, not so much: "Dominion Energy’s re-filed proposed 2018 Integrated Resource Plan again fails to fully take into account the energy preferences of the data center industry." 6/8
Tech is getting frustrated. And the specific companies on the letter are a big deal. Especially of note is Amazon, which has not been as willing to push its utilities as other leaders in the sector, and is by far Dominion's largest and most important customer right now. 7/8
Shareholders: does this type of letter instill confidence in @DominionEnergy corporate leadership? 8/8
