We need to step back and ask a bigger question here.

Why are Trump, the administration and his GOP allies going to such enormous lengths to choke off any and all further inquiry, if Russiagate has been conclusively settled in Trump’s favor?

When Trump says China pays us in tariffs, he's *lying.*

He's staking his reelection on this lie.

The lie is that he's taking money from China and giving it to his voters.

It's amazing that some still think Trump's trade wars amount to "economic populism."

Here's the game, I think. No deal with China, or a bad deal, could be disastrous for Trump.

So Trump has a backup plan. He's swapping in a new story: He's forcing China to "pay" us tariffs, and he's giving the spoils to his voters:

Of all the ugliness at last night's rally, among the worst is Trump lying about aid to Puerto Rico.

But there's a deeper deception here: Trump is falsely pitting disaster victims from different regions against each other.

The crowd applauded.

Making this disaster-aid impasse worse, everyone has to work around Trump's falsification of the situation.

Pence told Senate Rs to find a deal -- then showed them a chart illustrating Trump's "view" that Puerto Rico has already been given $91 billion:

One final point about this disaster aid impasse.

There's a perverse irony here. The Republicans' need to tip toe around Trump's lie about $91 billion in aid to Puerto Rico is actually hamstringing their ability to deliver aid to *their own constituents*:

Thread. Scientific research has tremendous innate value, and detector development (and training of scientists/engineers) has clear and tangible contributions to the economy. At the same time, resources are not infinite.
There are lots of considerations here, not the least of which is that it's not possible to shelve an entire field for a decade (or longer) & expect it to pop back up when the time is right. People will move onto different careers or different applications; that loss is permanent.
But: it's not good enough to say 'trust us'. Make the case for future facilities, but it's not reasonable to assume that there will always be $ for the next desirable experiment. In the face of the unknown, it makes sense to take a step back and ask about the best approaches.

Ann Coulter's right. Trump IS gutless. But not for capitulating to Dems on a wall. He's capitulating to PUTIN & RUSSIA's goals: Driving out Mattis, weakening NATO, ignoring Russia's stunning aggression in Ukraine, defending Putin, relaxing sanctions, undermining democracy etc etc
Now Trump drives Mattis out by Jan 1. This isn't normal b/c Trump is hostile to America. He aids our enemies. As I've said like a broken record, Trump is Putin's dream and America's nightmare. Bitter truth is, Republicans are OK with a Kremlin stooge president. Suicidal insanity.
