A few months ago, I miscarried. My doctor checked that all the fetal tissue had been expelled from my uterus. If it hadn’t, it could’ve rotted inside, probably killing me. Now if I’d known going to my doctor would’ve led to police questioning, would I have gone? Would you?
Not sorry if this is TMI, bc the entire country clearly needs way more education on basics of human reproduction. 15-20% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, so this is not a “niche” thing. You SHOULD know that, but people are making laws w/out a basic grasp of anatomy, so
Consider how the answer to the question, "Would you risk police questioning to access basic medical care?" might be different depending on your race & your community's historical interactions with police.
Consider that if you have a history of miscarriage, even if your pregnancy is wanted & healthy, you might NEVER go see a doctor for any prenatal care, so your pregnancy won't get "on the books," so that if you do miscarry again, you will not be subject to investigation.
Also thanks for all the support, but just keep in mind that I’m nonbinary, not a woman, and that plenty of trans folk get pregnant, have miscarriages and get abortions. I know old habits die hard but try not to use “women” as a standin for people who can get pregnant.
