When the world looks at Christians, imagine if their initial gut reaction wasn’t anti-gay, judgmental, and hypocritical (usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/religion/…)

Imagine if the Church wasn’t seen like that…but was understood as a movement that, y’know, looked like what Jesus started.
Imagine if Christianity was so thoroughly known for its marrow-deep hospitality.

What if people who needed wifi or a place to chill after school thought of a church, first?
Imagine if Christians were particularly known for protesting outside the gates of for-profit prisons and legislating for an end to mass incarceration, instead of being the first in line to administer their idea of “justice,” i.e. brutally advocating for punishment and cruelty.
Imagine if Christians were the ones trans kids *knew* would be most likely to love and accept them as creations made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26)?
What if Christians in positions of power were known for their radical stances on combating poverty and revolutionary understandings of true economic justice (Leviticus 25; Luke 4)?
What if those who followed Jesus never said a ludicrous word about ‘keeping CHRIST in Christmas,” but instead got into trouble over the Christmas season for turning over tables of capitalism in the sanctuaries of greed?
What if the first call people would make when they had experienced horrible shit in their lives…were to Christians, because they knew Jesus-followers would be the very LAST to judge them?
What if the first place people thought of to resource their communities were churches?

What if the first place people would consider truly combating systems of oppression and decolonizing violent narratives…were churches?
Anyways. All I know is this: our planet is sliding down a mountain of climate change and is about to cross a point of no return. Our very *species* is looking at something it never has before in its 150,000 years of existence and evolution.
And at the rate we’re going, Christianity might just become the theological version of the old white men who sit on their couches and drink the poison of right-wing propaganda and conspiracy theories that spew at them 24/7.
But it doesn’t have to be.

We can reclaim what Jesus started (and, of course, what he received from the Hebrew prophets who went before him, on whose massive shoulders he himself stood).
Christianity could be known for its life-giving ethos, its death-defying ethic, its grace-filled theology, its justice-soaked morality.

That might be of some use to this technologically adolescent, late-stage capitalistic planet that is literally on fire.

Imagine that.
