I ❤️ that EU membership:

- gives me the right to work, live, love, holiday in 27 other member states.
- demands higher standards protecting consumer rights
- has improved environmental protections
- protects my rights as a worker
- improves animal welfare
...
...created hundreds of thousands of jobs in manufacturing and services thanks to FOM, CU and SM
- increases living standards, prosperity and opportunities
- allows for students to experience other cultures and opportunities through its Erasmus programme

- invests in culture, infrastructure and regeneration programmes benefitting all
- provides security through cooperation and data-sharing protecting us all
- allows for unparalleled innovation in science, medicine and research through numerous agencies sharing expertise

- has provided the longest period of sustained peace in Europe - countries that cooperate through trade and political harmony tend not to want to rip each other apart

And all at a personal cost (to me) of a paltry 19p per day.

According to Transparency International @TI_EU, the lobby organisation that has held the most high-level meetings at the European Commission between 2014 and 2018 is @BusinessEurope.

"BusinessEurope?!?" you ask.

There is a worrying media blackout about how a complex network of organisations lobby the #EU on behalf of the world largest corporations.

I often agree with @EuroBriefing as I think he & colleagues offer some of the best insights on European politics. But the below is just unthinkable. Were the UK to unilaterally revoke Art.50, I'd bet a case would be put before the ECJ to stop this from happening.
Say UK stays in the #EU under Corbyn with the clear plan of triggering #Article50 a little down the line. What would a good EU lawyer do? She (because, let's face it, it would be a she 😉) would advice the EU institutions to bring the #UK before the #ECJ.
Why? Because, as a member-state, the UK would have breached Article 4 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU) which lays down something very boring called the "principle of sincere co-operation" between the EU member-states and the EU itself.

Right, time for a basic 'EU and Member States in trade agreements' thread. With anyone, but obviously relevant to future EU-UK agreement. 1/
Most importantly, DG Trade on behalf of the Commission are absolutely in charge of the process. They set the timings, convene the meetings… 2/
The Commission, led by DG Trade, decide what the draft content is, are the ones in the negotiating room, they report back to Member States, Parliament 3/
