Many Canadians have only recently become familiar with the Admiral Norman affair, so here is a recap of the case and political interference from the Trudeau government that I describe as Direction, Deception & Delay. 1/6
Direction - the breach of trust charge stemmed from a cabinet leak related to attempts to halt a $700M contract. 73 people were aware of the leak but for over a year only Admiral Norman lost his job & had his name given to the RCMP for investigation. 2/6 ottawacitizen.com/news/national/…
Deception - the pre-trial work of Norman’s defence team suggested that Code Words were used by the Trudeau government possibly to avoid disclosure of documents related to Admiral Norman. 3/6 theglobeandmail.com/politics/artic…
Delay - the Trudeau government attempted to avoid disclosure of documents for months. Eventually, they began to slowly release documents & some with major redactions. They also drowned the judge in duplicates to slow things down. 4/6 cbc.ca/news/politics/…
The judge in the Norman trial was also struck by Crown evidence that indicated that the PCO had sought to “engineer the issues at stake”. No clear rationale was given for this statement, but the judge believed it related to discussion about evidence. 5/6 cbc.ca/news/politics/…
I believe that disclosure from the Liberals in the last few months gave information & context to the DPP that neither they or the RCMP had at the outset. I think there should be a complete accounting for what documents or evidence led to the decision to stay charges. 6/6
