@JuliaHB1 @APPGBritMuslims I can understand nervousness around formalising a definition of Islamophobia but should be common ground that:
(1) Muslims face an unacceptable increase in hate crimes
(2) We need to listen to concerns of Muslim communities
(3) Free speech must be protected by any definition

There seems to be major misunderstandings on what @AGBritMuslims propose as exemplified by @juliahb1's introduction, which I challenged, that the proposal is to make Islamophobia a hate crime (it isn't) and any criticism of Islam would fall within it (it wouldn't)
From a human rights perspective one of the best reasons for agreeing a definition of Islamophobia is to *protect free speech* as if it is carefully defined with examples, per IHRA, it can help people claim free speech and say definitively their speech doesn't fall within it
