How badly are the public being served? Something very wrong in a system whereby rising crime coexists with a falling caseload in the courts. There is tumbleweed blowing through some courts & yet the public know crime is on the increase. Why is HMG not being held to account?

From a legal practitioners point of view a great deal of this scandal is due to people being remanded under investigation indefinitely. With no bail return date & few serious follow-up investigations even when directed by the CPS. You get frontloaded activity and then nothing.

I know some police blame the CPS for being overzealous and knocking back cases but in reality the police should do their job properly in the first place & above all follow up as quickly as possible & they are frankly failing to do so dealing with what’s in front of them instead.

There should be an immediate investigation into the dysfunctional relationship between the CPS and the police.

That is not to say that there are not resources issues but it goes deeper than that as there are cultural failures as well & lack of coordination to produce cases.

Like the Grayling probation changes this “kicking into the long grass“ style of investigation known RUI Has proved to be a disaster. It is harmful to the public, witnesses and suspects. Most regrettably all of this was so predictable. See below 👇
