This article raises an interesting question. Small parcels under a certain value don’t require customs duty or declaration. The legislation is a bit hazy on low value shipments. Can be used to send counterfeit goods or to avoid customs. /1

There is a general tendency to try to regulate and set out new procedures for low value shipments. At the same time low value shipments are not going anywhere – especially since we’re purchasing more and more online. /2

A Northern Irish MP just pointed out that the new #TradeBill will create a border in Northern Ireland. Fox said that it included a proposal to avoid that. Yeah, but Jacob Rees-Mogg's amendment makes it impossible for the EU to accept it!!!!
Explanation:
#TradeBill had a customs arrangement whereby the UK would collect tariffs on behalf of the EU so there wouldn't need to be a hard border in Northern Ireland thus protecting the Good Friday Agreement. The Mogg amendment says the EU must do it for the UK too or no deal
The EU has already said no to that. So Jacob Rees-Mogg and his ERG extremists have just put a poisoned pill in the #TradeBill which not only pushes us towards No Deal, but threatens to rip up the Good Friday Agreement.

Before the #whitepaper we thought amdts from Tory Remainers would be the big story this week on the #Brexit bills

Instead, after number of govt resignations, all eyes are on Brexiteer amdts to #CustomsBill

But what do they mean & what are some of the other amdts? 1/
ERG amdts
-prevent govt from collecting taxes/duties for territory without reciprocity
-NI can't be in separate customs territory to GB
-have to pass Act of Parl to participate in customs union
-remove powers to govern VAT of goods from territory if in a customs union with it 2/
1st is most difficult for govt as it goes against the govts customs proposal which would require the UK to collect tariffs on behalf of the EU

Other 3 are compatible with govt policy but would prevent movement to a softer #Brexit 3/
