In 2000 I gave the New York Times never-before-published internal memos showing George W Bush was told a company on whose board he served was facing a “severe cash crisis” shortly before he dumped its stock.

The Times ignored it and continued making things up about Al Gore.
If I were the kind of person who issued edicts about what other people are going to have to accept, I’d say reporters at the NYT & elsewhere are going to have to accept that a growing number of a people understand they’ve covered politics badly for a long time and are sick of it.
“Headlines don’t matter” is the dumbest thing reporters routinely say in order to fend off criticism.
