If you want to be successful at giving advice to others,

You have to make your advice slightly complex and mystical.

Simple and straightforward doesn’t sell.

Why?

Because of who you’re selling to.

The ego.

Now what does that mean? And why slightly complex & mystical?
First off, what happens when you give advice that’s too simple?

People will believe you didn’t provide value as everything in it is so simple “they could have thought of this themselves” (Note how they never actually do)

People get insulted by simple advice.

Why?

Their ego
Your ego vastly overestimates your intelligence (everyone’s ego does).

It likes to believe it’s smarter than anyone else.

So when you give very simple advice to someone,

Their ego gets triggered.

Because if true, your advice is proof they may not be that smart really.

the ethics of time travel and beanie babies would be interesting.
See, beanie babies were a weird stupid fad with lots of them sold at crazy prices, so you could easily make lots of money with them if you had a time machine.
one of the ethical problems is that people spent tons of money on them, by removing key beanie babies from the market you could easily cause that money to be diverted elsewhere, radically altering the timeline
you're also at significant risk of removing eBay from the timeline: at one point 10% of ebay sales were for beanie babies. if you accidentally stunt (or kill off) the growth of the beanie baby crazy, maybe no ebay.

1. This Q post from today is causing quite the stir, and I have been tagged several times as the target of this post. I am going to thread a very long response here, that hopefully will at least allow me a place to share my thoughts.
2. First some background. I have been an activist and investigator on the internet from at least 2009. I worked on both campaigns for Ron Paul, and if you knew me back then, you can chime in here for others to see that this is the case.
3. I was working hard on grassroots activism for Donald Trump, and I saw that there was a teaching opportunity for those who were just awakening to what was happening around us. I started my YouTube channel up again, and began covering the debates and the wikileaks emails.

I feel like driving up some controversy, so how about a thread of Hot Takes/Unpopular Opinions! You know the drill, one like = one take/opinion.

Start easy: the blunt awkwardness/cringe of 'Blurryface' is the point of taking the piss out of Tyler. I stand by my light 9/10.
2. I don't hate Nickelback's 'Dark Horse' - it's easily a record for them at their most tasteless, but the frat-bro swagger of it helps some of their better hooks.
3. 'Fireflies' by Owl City is a genuinely terrific song that captures precocious, starry-eyed wonderment better than few others in the 2000s.

It is SPECTACULARLY lame, but that's why it works.

Asked about the absence of a serious political challenger/number 2, Putin says it isn't his job to cultivate opponents to himself /1
He then adds pointless statistics, and describes the time before he took over Russia as a civil war. Punchline: Putin fixed it /2
Asked whether his "manual control" (ability to be approached by local people with personal issues that a president is not really supposed to help address), Putin says it is positive that the people know there is this "direct communication" /3
