A quick thread to y’all:

First off, THANK YOU for the support re: Friday’s incident at the border with CBP. I’ve never felt a stronger backing, which is nice, as I’ve also never been inundated with tweets calling me a “snowflake,” “wimpy bitch” or “lying fame-hunter” until now.

It’s oh so important to remind ourselves why I shared this all too common story in the first place: TO HELP PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENINGN TO OTHERS! Especially those with less means of defending themselves. Steps are being taken, and I will update y’all as the situation progresses.

I made a major point in my story on how my experience and sense of violation that I felt was merely a small taste of what People of Color have and continue to go thru on the daily in 🇺🇸, and how brown skinned people have been targeted by CBP long before the Trumpian era began.

Yes, in many ways, things have worsened on the border in recent months. But dear well-intentioned white folk: PLEASE STOP responding to the thread or the Quote Tweet from @AOC with the classic “what happened to America” or “where is our country going.” MOST OF THIS AIN’T NEW!

One thing that is relatively new, and crucial to my personal story, is the deliberate targeting of journalists by this administration, which has had a major domino effect down to CBP. We are now targets of frightening Modern-McCarthyism, simply for being members of the press.

If that doesn’t concern you, federally funded intimidation of a free and independent press, then good riddance. And if a CBP officer saying, “WE DON’T NEED PROBABLE CAUSE. WE CAN STOP AND SEARCH WHOEVER WE WANT” doesn’t concern you, then enjoy your apathy and get out of the way.

Again, the overwhelming majority of tweets, messages, and calls I’ve received over the last two days have been nothing but positive, with a vibe of strength and true support. The MAGA trolls pale in comparison. It’s that middle area that worries me, that quintessential moderate.

Much love to all those who reached out with something constructive, which includes every person who just sent a simple, “that’s ridiculous” or “I hope you’re ok.” I’m fine. More than fine. Ready for what’s to come. And blessed to be a part of this Cross-Border Community.
