@reedhastings .@reedhastings says the donations represent his "support of educational causes." He was in favor of a bill to expand charter schools. (The bill never got a floor vote)

But his donations were to politicians. It empowers them to advance their entire agenda

There is a widespread belief in corporate America that you can donate to any politician because they agree with you on one issue and then not worry about anything else they stand for

For the most part, they get away with it because no one pays attention

I'm also not completely convinced charter schools explain why Hastings donated so much. Why sink 143K into a bill that doesn't even get a vote? But CNN picked up the story and they say Netflix also hired a lobbying firm to get tax breaks for productions cnn.com/2019/05/30/bus…

1. We were told that instead of impeachment we were going to get an aggressive investigation of Trump's crimes

But it's been 7 WEEKS since the Mueller Report was released and the first Judiciary Committee hearing was today

And it was pointless
2. An investigation is supposed to be about uncovering facts.

Today's hearing was just a bunch of lawyers. Some of the lawyers said Trump probably obstructed justice. Another said that he didn't.

We learned absolutely nothing new.
3. What is happening?

Pelosi and the Democratic House leadership think impeachment is a political mistake. But it's a bad look to ignore crimes.

So what we are getting now is a bit of a dog and pony show. The point is to burn time until 2020.

2. First, as soon as the US/Mexico, declaration was released, anyone could figure out there was nothing new.

Mexico announced its plan to ploy the national guard A YEAR EARLIER.

The Migrant Protection Protocols were ALREADY IN PLACE.

It was a sham.

3. And yet pretty much every major outlet parroted Trump's claim that he had reached a significant deal with Mexico and adverted a crisis.

FACT: The joint US-Mexico declaration, which is less than 500 words long, requires Mexico to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING it isn't already doing.

It is not a "deal."

It is a fig leaf to cover up Trump's humiliating diplomatic defeat
What is particularly infuriating is how much "objective" media coverage repeats the Trump narrative without pointing out the basic fact that Mexico didn't agree to do anything new.

It's absolutely ridiculous.

Since it’s apparently FINE to subject folks who “did something wrong” to risky medical procedures, inflict pain/bodily harm against their will, deny right to bodily autonomy/self defense as long as it saves a life:

Unlike the pregnancies people would force women to carry, the physical sacrifice, medical risk, recovery time, & financial burden is minimal, health ins & paid leave will cover down time, & we’ll make sure you aren’t paid less or have any subsequent obligation to the recipient.🤗
I mean really, this is a hell of a deal in comparison to what people want to do to punish women for non-procreational sex and men’s reckless, unauthorized sperm deposits in pursuit of a slightly better orgasm.

So everyone should be happy right?

Twice in the Senate and once in the House. Last year I testified in the Senate, and while I was called “distasteful” by the Representative from the House who was sponsoring the anti-choice bill for saying the word “fetus”, the general tone was respectful....
Kind of weird, but respectful. [This time] was a different story.

While the Senators did not really ask questions of people/parents like me who were testifying – they mostly looked bored while we testified about our most personal, private, and heartbreaking moments....
