As if to confirm that the new #MarineConservationZones are indeed paper parks, the minister responsible, @theresecoffey, was able this morning to name only one activity the Berwick to St. Mary’s MCZ will restrict. Commercial fishing? Mining? Dredging? No, kayaking! A total farce.
It's like designating a rainforest as a conservation zone, while allowing loggers to continue felling all the trees. Instead of assisting this exercise in greenwashing, the @WildlifeTrusts should be demanding *much* more from the government.
This is one of those moments when the lack of leadership by the big conservation NGOs makes itself felt. Where they should be demanding urgent action to address our environmental emergency, they praise the government for pathetic tokenism.
