People often ask “how is the @nra responsible for mass shootings?” The #VirginaBeachShooting gives us several examples.

The incessant lobbying of that trade organization for the gun industry (and yes, this is what the NRA is) cost lives in this mass shooting. Thread.

The police found several empty large capacity magazines in the shooter’s possession after a “long” gun battle.

These magazines allow mass shooters to fire more rounds before reloading.

The @NRA lobbied against Virginia HB 2492 which would have banned them. The bill failed.

The shooter made “multiple” gun purchases in recent weeks.

This year, the Virginia legislature introduced HB 2604 and SB 1446 which would limited handgun purchases to one per month. The NRA successfully worked to kill these bills. #VirginaBeachShooting

In this session, the Virginia legislature considered HB 1763 and SB 1458, “red flag” laws that would have allowed those closest to the shooter to petition courts to temporarily prevent him form possessing guns.

These are just a few examples. The @nra puts profit over lives. People are dead because of it.
