That Reyes goal against Middlesbrough is one of my favourite ever memories from Highbury. Still gives me goosebumps thinking about it now.
I sat in the Clock End right next to the away fans which was great for obvious reasons, but the view wasn’t fantastic. We always used to shoot towards the North Bank in the second half so most of the important goals happened there. This one was an exception.
I remember that I almost didn’t see it cos I was still celebrating Pires’ equaliser. I just looked up in time to see Reyes pull the trigger and the ball just fly in and, for once, I had the perfect angle on it.
And of course, on TV watching back, Martin Tyler gets the commentary just right. ‘REEEEEEYES! Stand up for the champions!’ Every Arsenal fan knows that piece of commentary and, I think, every Arsenal fan that saw it cherishes that moment and probably went absolutely spare.
Footballers are only people, essentially. But they have this power to give us memories that last forever. RIP JAR ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
